Prayer Request for an old Warrior...
Axenolith ^ | 1-8-08 | Axenolith

Posted on 01/08/2008 10:31:10 PM PST by Axenolith

I would humbly request the prayers of folks here on behalf of my Grandfather, Henry Merritt. My Grandmother preceeded him in going to the Lord this past summer and was laid to rest in Arlington Cemetery. It now appears that he has bone cancer which is currently being evaluated and he was, at the last I heard, in no small amount of pain. He and my late Grandmother are Catholic.

My Grandfather on my Fathers side is 89, and this is the one who was a Veteran of the Navy (and briefly, of the Marines), being in from 1935 to 1966. He was a slave in Japanese POW camps, after capture on Corrigedor, in the Phillipines and on mainland Japan til wars end.

My Grandparents are the greatest thing a kid could ever have hoped for growing up, a font of wisdom ready to fill the seemingly always leaky sieve of a young man, and a rock anchor to a simpler America and moral absolutes in my adult years. They provided much of the nucleus around which the core of my patriotism and respect for the ideals of our countries founders grew and matured.

I myself humbly pray that the Lords Will be done gently with my Grandfather, and that he might provide comfort to my Father, who as a warrior himself is torn by being in the position of seeing his Father in pain and being unable to make it right...

My prayers are with your grampa. Corregidor and Japanese prison. If your grampa can survive that, he will survive anything.

Prayers for Henry. It has probably been difficult for him since your grandmother died. May the Lord continue to walk with him.

An outstanding tribute you’ve written about your grandparents. Be sure your words fall on his ears as well as your dad.

Meanwhile, I lift you and your family in prayer to Our Great Physician.

Sorry that your family has had to endure so many trials, and loss. Prayers being said for your grandfather that "The Lord's will be done gently with him" as you so beautifully put it.

Prayers to our Heavenly Father-for you and your father, to be comforted and kept in His tender care. The Peace of the Lord be with you. Amen.

(You wrote such a very nice tribute to your grandfather,- Maybe you can show it to him, and your father?)He sounds like a wonderful man- A true patriot and hero from the Greatest Generation.

The Lord be with all of you through this difficult time.

I lift you up to God, that you might be comforted. Across the darkened room, through the miles, I join you now in prayer for this man whom you have loved, this GrandFather whom you adore.

May he feel the presence of God, and may you see it on his face - that the Light of Heaven, in that translucent moment from life to life, may flood your soul and you will feel the joy of his entry into the Gates of Glory...

May Almighty God show favor to your Grandfather and grant him comfort and healing, as is His will. May he also grant peace of spirit to you all and provide for all your needs. I ask this in Jesus’ Holy Name, Amen.
