Holy Cabbage! [Vanity or Sign from Above?]
Posted on 08/30/2006 8:24:52 PM PDT by monkeyshine
While preparing Shabbat dinner for a couple of close friends and their acquaintances, my long-time girlfriend sliced straight down the middle of this cabbage.
She was surprised and amused to find that this particular cabbage had taken the form of the Star of David. She thought it particularly remarkable that this occurred while preparing a Shabbat dinner.
No, she wasn't making borscht, the intent was to make a cabbage salad but after cutting it open we decided this cabbage was symbolic and, so, refused to eat it.
She in particular recalled the news of the image of Mary appearing on a grilled cheese sandwich, and thought that a worldwide audience might appreciate seeing images of this Star of David cabbage. So she took a couple of pictures and I have been tasked with putting this on the web.

Funny, I just "got" your post. At first I thought the picture on the right was a pie - LOL. I guess I'm a little slow tonight.

Ha!
It might as well be a "pie". Next they'll scream that the whipped part of a meringue pie looks like the "Mohammad" image on the ice cream too!

How great! This must have been quite a surprise! Next time I cut a cabbage, I must pay more attention!

Maybe think about removing your post. It is rude, foul, vulgar, comparing Mary, mother of Christ to Hilton.

Hey anyone know how to preserve a cabbage? I thought maybe we could shellac it?
Serially? Freeze dry it.

Yah I'm series. Freeze dry? Won't that shrink it up? I thought a nice thick coat of varnish or something... but I'm no handyman, I eat cabbage!
How do you freeze dry something anyway? Just put in a dry freezer?

Freeze dry? Won't that shrink it up?I was thinking of freeze dry taxidermy.
But now that you mention it, all the freeze dried food I remember was a bit shriveled.
I'm thinking coating it in shellac or something will not change the water content and chemical composition. No matter how clean it is, there's some bacteria in there just waiting to consume it if you don't. You'll end up with a clear globe containing a puddle of cabbage goop, won't you?
I'd go looking for a taxidermist that does freeze drying and see what they say.

Slice an apple crosswise and you will see another star. This is not unusual. Many fruits and veggies have this pattern. I used to do it when my pre-schoolers were painting to make different sized stars.

Sure, there is the irony of seeing the Star of David while preparing a Shabbat dinner. An even bigger irony - bacon and cabbage is a commom dish here in Ireland! ;)
