Prayer Request for A Tiny Baby (Update in post #12850)
Myself | 8-11-03 | Brad's Gramma

Posted on 08/11/2003 12:57:30 PM PDT by Brad’s Gramma

If you will, please remember this tiny baby in your prayers. He’s the grandson of a very dear friend of mine. Logan was born on July 25. His due date was in October, making his mommy 26 weeks along, being born 3 months and 3 days early.

Logan was 1 lb 9.4 oz when he was born and is now weighing, as of this morning, 1 lb. 8.3 oz. The little guy is now 12-1/2” long.

He’s a real trooper and is fighting with all his little body can fight with. His Grandma said that he’s starting to recognize his mommy when she comes in the room and hears her voice. She said he tries so hard to open his eyes, and starts kicking his feet.

I asked my friend if there were any specific prayers, other than the obvious…and this is her reply…” A prayer of thanks for the miracle called "Logan.”

On a personal note, I’ve read the emails daily from my friend. I’ve known her for years, I’ve heard her talking about her family for years…but I’ve got to tell you that I’m SO impressed with how her children have all banded together in support. What an incredibly wonderful and loving family.

Father God, we lift up Logan’s little body to you. We pray that you can strengthen him hourly, daily, weekly, until he’s grown enough to go home with his precious family. We ask for guidance for the doctors and nurses who are caring for him. We ask for strength for his parents and extended family. Thank you so much for the gift of life. In Jesus’ Name, Amen

Fellow Freepers…….I bring you Logan!!!

Thanks, BG. Prayers going up for Megan.

I visited her web site and sent her a personal message too. She's just an adorable little girl.

I wanted to tell everyone my son ,Dustin, celebrated his 8th birthday today. It has been 1 yr4mo since his diagnoses of leukemia. He is still continuing his chemo treatments but is getting along fine. His hair has grown back and has very little physical problems.

Thank you for all who prayed for him!

God has been seeing us through this!

To all of you here, could you help me please?

I posted a picture of our darling granddaughter shortly after her birth.

Her name is Emily and she weighed 2lb.9oz...she was 8-1/2 weeks early.

She left the hospital at 4lb.7oz. and is now almost 7 pounds!

She's doing great, feeding well, sleeping well.

Here's my big question.

All you moms who had preemies.....did your doctor/pediatrician allow you to defer immunizations for your precious child?

Did they take in account the immature system and not load it down with immunizations too soon?

That is my question.

While I'm not against DPT, MMR, etc. and Emily is getting a monthly shot to protect her from colds and viruses...

...they now want to also give her a Hep.B shot.

Why is a baby getting a Hepatitus B shot?

My understanding is Hep B is transmitted by blood, sex, perhaps transfusions...(neither which Emily has had)...

Emily is healthy.....she's at home, not in daycare....and her parents are very careful with handwashing, etc.

Her pediatrician said his insurance company considers it a liability if they don't sign off on this....

...that even if my daugther and her husband wanted to defer or not do this, they would have to find another doctor.

I don't understand this.

WOuld someone please explain why a tiny baby needs a Hep.B shot??????

Hi Emily's gramma :)

I'm Texas Termite's Nana... and I'll try and answer your question with what we did with Logan.

Logan's mom and dad elected to allow the doctors to give him any all immunizations that they considered necessary. Many don't agree, but their thinking was that this baby needed all of the protection that was offered. For him, it seems to have been a wise choice. He's doing fantastic!

As to the Hep B.... when Logan's Mommy was a tiny baby (and she only weighed a little over 3 lbs. at birth), one of the nurses in the neo unit was found to have hep. They gave this skinny little bitty baby a HUGE shot of gamma globulin. I almost fainted when I saw the needle.....now remember, that was 40 years ago! But Beth was fine and we were spared any illness with her.

In closing... with these little ones, you have to be extra cautious. If you have faith in her doctor, that will help with the decision. If you don't, then perhaps a different doctor is needed anyway.

Give your little one a hug and kiss from our little miracle baby. And God bless you and your family on your decision that has to be made.

Nana

Oh, but don't worry. I told him he can't date until he's 30

I imagine there's a bunch of little girls, maybe some not yet even born, who might have issues with that statement. Maybe even my granddaughter, Victoria, who should be born sometime around the first of may. It's not that far from Houston to Austin after all. :)

And now, without further ado, I bring you The Star of the Show... Logan!
