I'm in IE, and I just went there. Maybe you need a reboot, or an update.

It's IE 6 SP1.
And it freaks out when I try to go there.

'Course, it could be the 'puter itself.
It often does odd things without explanation.
Probably because it needs desperately to be replaced.

Okers.
It's not the proggy, it's clean.
It's the machine.
Yes, confirmed that quickly.
Thanks for the input.
It was part of the missing puzzle piece for this one.

Why anyone would use AOL is beyond me. I never figured out what purpose it serves except to get in the way of internet service.

When I see @aol.com in an email address, I automatically think "newbie" or "loser". It conveys "I'm just playing around here - I really don't know much about this Internet thingie. My grandkids help me press the buttons."

When I see this type paragraph I think “gee I wish I knew this guy so I could have a personal TALK with him". I have used AOL, though I hate it, since the days when there was little else. I have customers all over the world who may only look for me every few years. They may have changed companies and locations many times since we last spoke, do I just give them up? I also have thousands of posts on genealogical and history web sites that use the AOL address and often get answers to questions long after I posted.

I can give none of this up because of what people like you think.

Let's see reasons for not using AOLhell.
Unbeliveably slow
Chat rooms where the IQ averages in the 80s.
Unreliable as Clinton.
The liberal bias just adds to it.

I got AOL in 1997 since most countries had access to it without needing to call back to the US. There was a surcharge but cheaper than calling back to the US. I needed that portability. Now my email is so entrench with so many I hate to change it. I will just as soon as broadband rates come down one more time.

I don't like their silliness (little hearts for favorites and all that other junk) and don't like the way their service is more of a "gated community" than a porthole to the world.

I have seen quite a few ISPs in operation and honestly I don't find an ounce of difference in any of them. So you have to learn a few new clicks and codes on one and not the other. Who Cares? I really don't see what you mean about gated vs. porthole. There is no website anywhere in the world that is available on one of AOL's rivals and not available on AOL.

My email is established on AOL. If someone can tell me why it's worth going through the inconvenience of re-establishing an email address somewhere else --- what real benefits I would accrue --- I might consider switching. But inevitably the AOL haters just come up with techie snob appeal answers when asked that question, and I really couldn't care less about tech fashion.

I just want to get out here and do what I like to do. And for that AOL works just fine for me.

Actually, it went the other way around. At the time of the AOL - Time Warner merger, AOL's share price was 3x what Time Warner's was. Keep in mind the merger came together on January 10th, 2000, at the peak of the internet hype. Ted Turner's Time Warner got grifted big time...

But he still pretty much runs the show.
And he's so ultra-liberal that his urine is probably pink as well.

The scary thing about Turner is that he's on the record somewhere whynging that CNN basically isn't left wing enough! He's been pushed aside by Levine, Case, and whoever else runs that 3 ring circus now. But yeah, he is their biggest shareholder still, even though (and I've just read an excellent biography of Rupert Murdoch) he's made a *LOT* of terrible business decisions over the years (buying all the internet hype and letting AOL take over based on its share price is the latest in a string of them). In business smart's, he's nowhere near Murdoch's league...

But yeah, Turner's pink. I mean, this is the guy who married Jane Fonda for all those years... Nothing more needs to be said than that!

Yeah, the guy is scary.
And if he ever got hold of real political power, other than when he wields it during elections in the form of monetary donations, he'd be far more dangerous than he already is.

He's spoken against the second amendment, as well as other freedoms.
The guy is class 1 grade A scum.
And I agree whole-heartedly.

Your presumed need to put down other peoples' ISP preferences does not cause you to be admired more for having done so.

I happen to have AOL, Optimum Online, and use hotmail, too. I use each for what they are good for and I'm not a "geek" in need of defining my ego by his ISP address.

I suspect that the two of you make it a habit of rushing to judgement about alot of people.

While this is clearly very unwise debating practice, it does offer readers a reveling glimpse into both of your respective fundamental self-important immaturities.

The only reason I have kept my email is it's such a pain to change and communicate the new address to everyone.
Besides being "liberals", now they have an "idle timer" which logs people off after only a few minutes which is really annoying. I worked for them for a few months so have seen it on the inside - nice people, techies, but very little customer focus.

"You know, there are far more aol users on this forum than you imagine, including me."

*raises hand* me too.

I tried to unsubscribe recently (b/c of the bias), but they gave me a free month. Billing time is coming up, I guess I'd better call again... ;-)

I agree, I found AOL to be more of hinderance to internet access than the lower cost ISPs that do nothing more than provide a gateway. But there is one thing AOL has and that is free dial up numbers is many, many areas. I like to be able to get online when I travel but can't with my little local ISP. Anyone know of an ISP with lots of access throughout the US?? Other than AOL? Thanks in advance.

I signed on and saw that "Is His Credibility On The Line?" headline and fumed. When I clicked on the link and saw the "Bush Credibility Meter," I would have put my fist through my monitor if I wouldn't have had to pay for a replacement.
