AOL Liberal Bias

I agree and disagree.

Obviously, you know more about the technical aspects of their software.

However, if you have a dial-up connection it makes sense to have AOL.

I haven't used AOL's browser in years, even when I had to dial-up.

Now that I have DSL, the AOL account is like a long-held phone number/back-up when DSL is down.

It works.

As for AOL people not knowing how the internet works?

Um, to be sure a lot don't because they're NEW to the game.

As I stated, I was doing HTML nearly a decade ago, and until the high-speed era, AOL was fine(except for that short time they took on more subscribers than they had bandwidth for)

Now, it's just a backup. I also have a bias against NetZero because what WAS free is no longer(not that I expected any different, but don't shove commie-glorifying commercials down my throat on football sundays either)

most broadband connections are NOT 9.95, so if a person can get AOL broadband or Verizon, go for it. Either would be better than Excite@Home, which is what we had prior to Interquest.

I never liked NetZero. My brother had it and could never get in.

I have Qwest VDSL, which is reasonably fast downloading, and smoking fast uploading. It's perfect for me because I upload a lot of files. Their reliability is great, too, which is odd because they have a terrible reputation for their dial-up service.

When I had dial-up I used a local ISP--cheap and reliable. I admit I am biased against AOL, but I have my reasons. I am not a technician, so I try to stay away from programs which tie up my time with glitches (Microsoft is bad enough!)

Do you have to have AOL as your homepage if it's your ISP? I prefer mindspring.com (earthlink) for many reasons not the least of which is that it works with Outlook email and it's not web-based. Lose AOL.

I'm with you Miss Marple. I've had AOL for years, I might leave one of these days, but for now I'm keeping it. I also have an external ISP and I'm intelligent enough to know how to populate my AIM list and my Buddy List.

It's easy enough to demonize AOL or anything else for that matter, a no brainer. There are Communities on AOL that I enjoy, just as I enjoy Free Republic.

I think it is probably fair to say that one can be pretty certain that no one here on FR has sought your "help" in your noted example at all. Which is what makes your posting of distain for AOL users on THIS site to be all the more inappropriate.

If he had a controlling interest, he would have gotten what he wanted right now, which is for AOL Time Warner to split up. He has been denied several times for things he demanded. The most notable was when they sold his beloved wrestling organization to his publicly hated rival Vince McMahon, but not before embarrassing canceling the wrestling show on his own network TNT and TBS.

Since he has sold of a most of his shares, he is now attempting to buy back the atlanta braves, whom he did own, and now belongs to AOL Time Warner. If he "owned" AOL Time Warner, it would be mighty odd to try and buy assets that he "owns" from it.

He also had the indignity of having been denied when he demanded CNN hire a friend of his, and they refused. His relationship, with Dick Parsons, is at best warm, his relationship with Steve Case, horrid (he has threatened him on several occasions).

Owning shares in a company, and owning the company, are 2 different things, the fact that he could be fired or be able to resign shows that.
