Hell, who wants to be a skinny little guy? (no offense to any skinny little guys reading this) I've never met a woman who preferred their guys bony.
If my doctor tells me I'm in good shape, I think I'll take his word for it.

Well I don't think Curtis Martin has anything to worry about. Common sense would dictate that there are exceptions to every "rule" and athletes, especially bodybuilders, would be one of those exceptions.
However, Curtis ought to watch himself once he retires. There are a lot of very obese retired football players. I know from experience that your physique can change very quickly. I was in the Marine Corps and I ran several miles a day and did hundreds of situps and pushups. I weighed 185 and my BMI upon discharge was 23.18. I also had a huge appetite. When I got out of the service, all my muscle began to turn into fat and then I started to pile the pounds on. Of course, I'm not blaming anybody but myself for that. And I have taken it upon myself to do something about it.
Since I am not an athlete or a bodybuilder, I expect to bring my BMI down to 25.

At 5'9" 200 lbs. I'm overweight at - 29.5 BMI. I'd have to lose almost 40 lbs. to get into the normal range
Or, you could try gaining seven inches in height!
To: Woodman
Hate to tell you Sam. You didn't need a BMI scale to tell you that you were overweight at 6'3" 225 or above.Well news flash to you, I didn't need a BMI scale to tell that I was overweight either. However, the BMI has proved to be a handy tool to guage my progress as I proceed to do something about it. It's not perfect but it's easy to figure out and it looks nice on the weekly spreadsheet I run on myself (especially when the numbers go down each week instead of up).

Maybe it should be called "Testosterone; Guys that drink their breakfast."

I wonder if Pamela Anderson Lee would be considered obese by this chart. She is carrying around an "extra" 20lbs.

Lamont Jordan is 225# at the same height. HE's OBESE...lol
"Fat" short guys like that are a snap to tackle. ;o)
OTOH, there are always a few geniune "fat" guys in the NFL who can really play. Unfortunately after a few seasons they usually morph from "fat guys who can really play" into just "fat guys".

I don't need a computer to tell me that. The mirror, my wife, and 3 teenage sons tell that all the time. ;^)

Yes, I am fat....dammit!
Yes, I wanna lose weight (At 6'4" & 290 pounds, it's painful to look at myself in the mirror when I step outta the shower in the morning).
At the same time, I've already done the anorexic standards and expectations they have (I was just as tall and 155 pounds soaking wet the day I got married seventeen years ago). I just wanna burn off about 60 or 70 pounds -- SAFELY.

"The BMI does not consider your per cent body fat. A weight lifter will score obese based upon his higher proportion of muscle mass."
Exactly. My boyfriend is a bodybulder, at 6'2" and 215 lbs of solid muscles with ripped abs, he is considered obese?

I went thru a career in the USAF being told I was at my max weight of 199 pounds for my height. Waivers for my job were granted on Body Fat measurement. I stayed below 10% body fat but went thru my whole career at about 210 pounds.
We ran 6 miles a day and PT'd about three hours each morning with a key on free weights , endurance and swimming. The single best measurement of ones health and ideal weight IMHO is the water dunk tank BFM test.
Accurate gauge of fat in ones body . I'd really like to know who the person was that said my max weight should be 179 pounds at 6 feet tall.......... I think I weighed that in 6th grade.
Once I had to attend a school that didn't "allow" my weight waiver so I had to lose below 199 to attend. I doubled my run distance a day, cut my diet and did the rubber shirt thang for a month before I was to arrive for in processing. I was at 199. Could'nt get below 199 for the life of me and had to weigh in every monday for 2 months. Fought , battled and dieted like a mad man while working out morning and evenings yet 199 was where I stayed.
My suggestion to all is to get the water tank dunk test and use percentage of fat as a measurement of weight. To the best of my knowledge it is still the most accurate. If ones ticker and blood workup is good and their fat percentage is below 18 based on the "dunk test" then screw these charts and formulas.
Just my experience with the issue......Stay Safe !

At that height and weight, people tend to look right past your hairlip.

Curious. With no other body messurements, they just arbitrarily assume you are "obese". I'm 5'10" and 265. I've also got 20" arms and I'm up to a 54" chest. I bench 315 for a warm-up set of 8. You don't even want to know how much I squat for reps.
If this guy tries to tell me I'm "obese", I'll break him in half.

Can't read the display on my calculator for my belly. But I'm sure my BMI is ok.Don't worry about it.
The calculations are way off.
According to it, for my weight I am supposed to be 6 feet 11 inches tall, and I am only 5 feet ten. -tom
