I went thru a career in the USAF being told I was at my max weight of 199 pounds for my height. Waivers for my job were granted on Body Fat measurement. I stayed below 10% body fat but went thru my whole career at about 210 pounds.

We ran 6 miles a day and PT'd about three hours each morning with a key on free weights , endurance and swimming. The single best measurement of ones health and ideal weight IMHO is the water dunk tank BFM test.

Accurate gauge of fat in ones body . I'd really like to know who the person was that said my max weight should be 179 pounds at 6 feet tall.......... I think I weighed that in 6th grade.

Once I had to attend a school that didn't "allow" my weight waiver so I had to lose below 199 to attend. I doubled my run distance a day, cut my diet and did the rubber shirt thang for a month before I was to arrive for in processing. I was at 199. Could'nt get below 199 for the life of me and had to weigh in every monday for 2 months. Fought , battled and dieted like a mad man while working out morning and evenings yet 199 was where I stayed.

My suggestion to all is to get the water tank dunk test and use percentage of fat as a measurement of weight. To the best of my knowledge it is still the most accurate. If ones ticker and blood workup is good and their fat percentage is below 18 based on the "dunk test" then screw these charts and formulas.

Just my experience with the issue......Stay Safe !

You sound like a friend of mine from HS and college. She was on the National Champ cheer team, and they had a weight limit (similar to the wrestlers). The more she exercised, the more she put on (weight wise) in muscle. She had to retire from the team when she, from working out so (bleep) much that she got stress fractures in both legs from running 10 miles a day.

She is now a NP, and a wonderful mom, and still quite healthy. (and still at her college weight)

I entered basic training at 6' 1" 195. A solid, athletic 195. The first day we were there they called out the “fat boys”. On was on the list because I was within some arbitrary percentage from the max. I have fought the standards for 22 years now. Meanwhile, USAF got rid of the minimum weight. So, you can be a fragile 6’ 1” 120, but don’t you dare approach 200 pounds! Silly.
