At 5'11'' and 220 I'm 'obese', but I can bench press 250 and can run 5 miles at a go. Not sure what to think....

Am I "obese" at 6'0" and 150?
My BMI says no. (20.3)

I do need to exercise more, though.

These "studies" are worse than useless. I'm willing to bet that Karen Carpenter would be regarded as being "fat" by this index. In fact, I would not be surprised if Karen Carpenter completed one of these fraudulent "studies" a few days before she finally starved herself to death, and that the result was "grossly morbidly obese".

I really and truly hate the entire diet and nutrition industry. The Flat Earth Society is more credible in my book.

My BMI = 28.7

Jeez, I knew I had some extra pounds, but wow!
I suppose I will have to give up Parker's BBQ, pork skins and beer.

Burp!

17.7 And my wife says that yes, I do looked like a starved Ethiopian. But I just finished off a mixed grill of steak and shrimp, so I'm not starving....

Surprising that a fat b****** like myself can run half marathons.

I here ya. I'm going to be laughing as I do my daily hour on the cross trainer.

I wonder how many "obese" people can climb Mt. Washington every summer?

At 6'3" I would have to be 145 lbs in order to fall into the underweight category if I was still living.

At 5'9" 200 lbs. I'm overweight at - 29.5 BMI.

I'd have to lose almost 40 lbs. to get into the normal range.

I'd love to know where they expect me to lose it from since my body fat is at 15%.

Idiots.

Since we are all giving vital statistics here I will take my turn. 6'1" 215lbs, bench 300, ran 6 miles this morning in well under an hour, and ran half marathon last month. According to the chart I am borderline obese.

What a joke. Genetics, diet, and body fat are what's important.

"Time for disability..."

Hell with that, I'm calling my attorney! There's a food producer out there that's going to pay. Oh, I forgot, I buy all of my meat from my rancher neighbor and I grow and can my own veggies. Never mind.

6' 4", 215 pounds: 26.2 I'm overweight!

My resting heartbeat is 42, my bp is 115/75 and I bike 9 miles to work daily.

I would like to get down to 205, which was my weight when I moved to Peoria in 1988. Also, that is when my "spare tire" first appeared. Yech. My BMI at 205 would be 25.

At 5' 11" , my low end for "normal weight" would be 133 pounds. Let me tell you, at one point in my life I had dysentery, and my weight dropped from 160 to 145. Even at 145, almost skin and bones, I would have had a BMI of over 20. This just goes to show how nuts that formula is.

've done a lot of research on this recently and the BMI measurement is something I'm taking very seriously.

Really? Try Calculating it for someone with....muscles....

Here's one, Jets RB Curtis Martin. 5'10" 205# = BMI 29.49 ....Someone better call Curt, and tell that Fat bastard to go on a diet...lol

The BMI does not consider your per cent body fat. A weight lifter will score obese based upon his higher proportion of muscle mass. The BMI was made for people with average muscle mass. It's only used because it's easy to calculate without having to take all kinds of measurements that per cent body fat does.

28-29

I have lost 30-35 pounds from last year, when my BMI was 33, I think. I look and feel much better.

Except for this weekend when I discovered some info about stuff that has been going on for years behind my back. I must be losing a lot of weight these days, since I'm really not eating or sleeping much right now. But this is not really the forum...
