STONEWALL - Two fifth-grade boys at North DeSoto Middle School who are accused of fondling a female classmate will go unpunished by school officials despite pending criminal charges.

The alleged incident involving a fifth-grade girl at a Shreveport skating rink would have been considered sexual harassment and the two boys would have been suspended immediately had it occurred on campus, said Ronnie Land, supervisor of child welfare and attendance for DeSoto schools. School officials cannot suspend students for alleged violations that occur off campus, he said.

To me it looks on the surface like an issue that needs to be addressed by parents and civil authorities. We can not and should not expect the school system to raise our children 24 7. Experimental behavior by poorly raised and poorly monitored children is not unusual.

Yeah, they probably do, but they don't go to lousy public schools with admitted problems. They probably have a better chance of getting assaulted in a public school than they do at an ice skating rink.

quadrupled in last 10 years.

The DeSoto Parish seat of government is Mansfield, where a Civil War battle was fought in 1864. As I recall, Confederate General Richard Taylor, son of the late Zachary Taylor, scored a victory of sorts here, but it had no implication in regard to the ultimate outcome of the war. Mansfield has been a Democrat bastion for many years. The town has a black mayor. However, I don't think the parish is 85 percent black. I would "guess" 65 percent black.

They don’t describe what was going on between these kids at the time this incident (or non-incident) took place, but I would suspect they were at least kissing.

I used to get slapped a lot by girls when I was dating (back in the fifties), but never had to go before a grand jury. And I don't ever remember getting dumped as a boyfriend because of it.

I suspect it is the same today, and that this is just a more crazy PC stuff. Girls are than capable of warding off frisky suitors by themselves with out involving the law.
