FReeping of anti-war protesters a success after Pres. Bush's rally in Louisville, KY!

Posted on 11/01/2002 7:24:01 PM PST by strick68

Tonight Pres. Bush came to campaign for Rep. Anne Northup (KY-03) and Mike Sodrell, the challenger to Baron Hill (D-IN district 9). As always the President was brilliant and he energized the crowd with pretty much the standard stump speech. But it was the action outside that I longed to get out to. Coming in to the International Convention Center my wife and I saw the protesters gathered at the southwest corner of the Center across the street with police keeping them from crossing the street to harass the 4,000 people lining up to go through security. They were the usual bedraggled suspects railing against our good President and the war on terror and Iraq. No FReepers in sight...yet. When we left the arena the wacko crowd had grown much larger and more vocal. My wife had never seen anything like it and wanted to watch from the inside. I watched as well and caught sight of the 30 or so people on our side of the street chanting back at them. I knew my mission was clear but didn't want to leave my wife. However seeing the sign that read "B-52's are terrorists too!" drove me over the edge. Out the door I flew and joined the growing unofficial FReep. We had hurriedly scrawled signs, U.S. flags and our lungs as we hollered back at the Lefties across the street. I started The National Anthem and God Bless America as one guy ran back and forth with Old Glory herself. We had them really riled up and chanting louder when we started chanting "GET A JOB! GET A JOB!" and finished them off with several rounds of "USA! USA!" I want to thank the guy who let me take his sign and write on the back "What part of 'They want to kill us' don't you understand?" We had that one on full display in front of the Saddam supporters as we both shouted "JOIN THE ARMY!" repeeatedly. Everyone I spoke to I refered to freerepublic.com and I hope they log on. But my proudest moment came when my wife emerged from the safe confines of the arena and joined us on the sidewalk. It was cold and I wanted to stay but after a while with no side having gained a decisive advantage we left for our car. If any other FReepers were there please post your story. I'd love to read them. And if Pres. Bush comes to your town and you can't get tickets to see him then support him outside the venue by FReeping the inevitable protesters that will surely be there. Freedom of speech...I love it!

Hermann Goering said :

"Why of course the people don't want war. Voice or no voice , the people can always be brought to the bidding of the leaders. That is easy. All you have to do is tell them they are being attacked , and denounce the peacemakers for lack of patriotism and exposing the country to danger. It works the same in any country.

If we controlled our schools this would be common knowledge , but that wouldn't serve our masters........

I just love people like you doing the things you do! Thank you for telling us about it. Yeah, to wife. I've heard Freepers say the first time was scary but they got bolder and bolder and more excited to freep each time they did.

I salute both your courage and conviction -- many of us complain; however, very few of us actually take the opportunity to ACT!!!!

God bless you and your wife! God bless President Bush!

You know I hadn't thought about it until I read your post, but last night in Charleston, WV there was not a single protestor....not a one. When you think about it, that's incredible. There were thousands of people standing in line for hours and there was a friendly atmosphere with joking and laughing among them. There wasn't a negative incident throughout the entire evening.

They are not "Anti-War" protesters! They are "Anti-Strength" protesters.

I cringe anytime someone decribes those who are opposed to our efforts to strongly enforce the sanctions against Iraq as "Anti-War". The whole point of these sanctions is to prevent Iraq from rebuilding a military that could pose a threat to its neighbors, or the the west, and thereby prevent a war. Therefore, one should assert that those who favor the strengthing of these sanctions are "Pro-Strength, and Anti-War". And those who would soften these sanctions, ignoring the reality that it would probably lead to war, are "Anti-Strength", and, through their ignorance, "Pro-War".

It was sickening to see those wackos out there protesting in my own hometown of Louisville. What is worse is the fact that I saw it coming ahead of time and could do nothing about it (more about that later). The truth is that we don't really want to do anything about it, I suppose. That is to say that as long as there are going to be far-left Commies (literally, folks), then we should allow them to make complete fools of themselves. That's the beauty of free speech.

I work in a media-related job and I work with very left-wing individuals. They have their rights to believe as they do, but I believe they are very misinformed. It started here Thursday when one of the individuals with whom I work came into the office dressed up on Halloween as George W. Bush and handed out fake "tax refund checks." And it was downhill from there. I heard comments over and over that disgusted me. The following is a medley of just a few of the comments I had to endure at work (those I can repeat, without getting this post pulled by the moderators):
"That's the scariest costume here....You'll scare away any kids this year....Everytime I look at you, I want to puke....Four more years, huh?....Don't try to reason with him today, look who he's dressed up as....Don't say anything bad about him, or Homeland Security will come for you..."

And the comments I heard them make about Congressman Anne Northup include the following: "I just want to shut her up everytime I see her commercials....I'd like to step on head, if it would shut her up...."

That's tolerance, folks. When I ask them what happened to being open-minded, they clam up. When I ask them what about the tons of things that happened under Bill Clinton, they laugh with sarcasm. One of them even told me that he wasn't open-minded and peaceful because he considered himself not a liberal, but a radical leftist. At least they're honest.

These are the things that have turned me into a "mean-spirited Republican." I am not even the biggest Bush fan, folks. I told them at work that I must be either the middle-road voice of reason or a hypocrite, because I defend many of Bush's actions against them, while online, others defend other actions of Bush's against me. But I told them that I was not going to lose my cool at work because I would rather have Bush be President and have them ridicule him everyday than to have Gore be President and have them be happy.
