Boy do I know that. I caught on to the government a long time ago. Anyone who thinks that government is their savior can forget it.
Won't it take a long time to accomplish this goal without greater pressure from the people? Shouldn't there be more publicity and education to the masses? We certainly cannot rely on our reps who would not relinquish fiscal and political control.
In the interim, aren't taxcuts a step in the right direction?
I am glad that you agree with me.
"Won't it take a long time to accomplish this goal without greater pressure from the people?"
Even with pressure from the people, it will take a long time. We the People will have to diselect some prominent anti-tax reform Representatives and Senators and elect pro-tax reform Representatives and Senators in 2002 and 2004 to get this job done.
"Shouldn't there be more publicity and education to the masses?"
Yes, most assuredly. We at NRSTA are constantly working to do that. Thass what we do, sweetie.
"We certainly cannot rely on our reps who would not relinquish fiscal and political control."
No, we cannot. We must threaten them with their jobs, and then carry through on the threat. IOW, send some of them packing!
If we can muster the grass roots strenght to send enough Representatives and Senators packing on the fundamental tax reform issue, the rest will fall into place. Keep in mind that to most of our elected officials, their most important job is to keep their elected position of power. It is a disease, and most elected officials have it.
In WDC, that disease, and it is a contagious disease, is called "Potomac Fever." But local, county and state elected officials have the local, county or state version of the same disease.
"In the interim, aren't taxcuts a step in the right direction?"
Yup. If they are immediate and meaningful.

He and Jonah Goldberg.
Jefferson would understand why things are the way they are and why we are the way we are.
Then he'd vedge out on the sofa in front of the TV. As hard as it was to get him here, it'll be even harder to get him to leave.
Tell him his Black descendants are coming over -- that may do the trick.
Jefferson would understand why things are the way they are and why we are the way we are.
It appears that you do not agree with the authors of this article, and that Jefferson would just veg out on the couch and watch the tele, staying here to pay income taxes with a smile on his face.
You, x, are one disrespectful and unappreciative person of your heritage, and the founding of this country.
I believe the real problem eroding community spirit began with FDR, and the expectations of many that the government would take care of them. Hopefully, someday that will change. It already has taken a small step with the Welfare Reform Bill.
I agree that reducing the size of government will exist when we place many of its functions back within the private sector. And that my FRiend would start with abolishing the IT.
While Jefferson would be appalled by the tax rates we have to pay, he'd recognize that such things do happen in societies that don't have a frontier to absorb the poor and give people an opportunity to escape to self-sufficiency and freedom. Jefferson was also heavily indebted in his last years. The idea of giving away 50 or 70 percent of one's income before one even sees it would not have been new to him.
Little Willie was "The Worst President In American History".
I'll be damned if I let my children go hungry to satisfy the like of you or this "American" government. BTW, less than $4,000 of the $40,000 I supposedly owe for last year will actually be used to benefit "the poor". Most of the rest is eaten up by the beaurocracy with maybe $6,000 going to the purposes our government should be responsible for.
I sympathize with your problems. I hope everything works out for you and your family.
