Mankind soon learn to make interested uses of every right and power which they possess, or may assume. The public money and public liberty, intended to have been deposited with three branches of magistracy, but found inadvertently to be in the hands of one only, will soon be discovered to be sources of wealth and dominion to those who hold them… They [the assembly] should look forward to a time, and that not a distant one, when a corruption in this, as in the country from which we derive our origin, will have seized the heads of government, and be spread by them through the body of the people; when they will purchase the voices of the people, and make them pay the price. Human nature is the same on every side of the Atlantic, and will be alike influenced by the same causes. The time to guard against corruption and tyranny, is before they shall have gotten hold of us. It is better to keep the wolf out of the fold, than to trust to drawing his teeth and talons after he shall have entered.

I assume millions of people will be listening to the oral arguments so the court’s servers will probably be overloaded.

Thomas Jefferson and our other founding fathers were very wise men. It is too bad man’s love of power and money did the very thing of which they feared.

“I see an empty chambers...”

It will just be audio. SCOTUS hearings are not live-streamed with video.

So when the SC throws cold water on “insurrection” claims and says Trump is obviously eligible to be on ballots and be Pres again... does this help him in his other cases and any other case they may bring citing “threat to democracy” blah blah blah....

We shouldn’t forget that: (a) it wasn’t an insurrection, (b) Trump never called for an insurrection, (c) Trump was never convicted of an insurrection. It’s just another Democrat lying, cheatin’, dastardly, scheming underhanded scam.

Read it over and over...

"engaged" refers to the Confederates...and the word "Officers" is a clarifying word...

Should be 9-0 for Trump, but in this day and age of total dumbassery, 5-4 for Trump.

I’m not a pessimist, just an often disappointed optimist.

If Trump loses then it means any state can arbitrarily keep any candidate off the ballot by calling them an insurrectionist. You could have different candidates in every single state.

Roberts will call keeping Trump off the ballot a “tax”, and so is allowable by the states.

(d) Trump was never charged with insurrection, (e) none of the J6 defendants (who Trump supposedly influenced) were charged with insurrection.

“Roberts will call keeping Trump off the ballot a “tax”, and so is allowable by the states.”

LOL! Roberts is actually more of a wild-card than any of the other justices. We know how the DEI appointees will decide. But Roberts can guide the court into pretzel logic that narrowly rules that although it wouldn’t apply to other candidates or former Presidents, there is a “Trump exception” that means that Trump can be prevented from being on a State’s ballot.

The SC has no such power to decide this. Eff em no matter their decision.
