Senate Republicans block bipartisan border package, scuttling deal they had demanded from Democrats

WASHINGTON (AP) — Senate Republicans blocked a bipartisan border package Wednesday, scuttling months of negotiations with Democrats on legislation intended to cut back record numbers of illegal border crossings.

Many Republicans said the election-year compromise wasn't enough, even as supporters of the bill insisted it was the best possible in divided government.

The 49-50 vote, far short of the 60 ayes needed to take up the bill, came after most Republicans said they would vote against the legislation, which also includes $60 billion in wartime aid to Ukraine and $14 billion for Israel and was backed by President Joe Biden. GOP lawmakers had insisted that the money for conflicts abroad be paired with help for the U.S. border.

Forcing the showdown with Republicans, Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer said earlier that he would try to salvage the wartime funding, and would next push ahead on a crucial test vote for tens of billions of dollars for Kyiv, Israel and other U.S. allies — a modified package with the border portion stripped out.

These dimwits still think they can get some war funding.

But it's DOA in the House.

They care SO much more about spending the sum entirety of the budget of the Marine Corps overseas than they do about our own borders.

The dirty little secret is that the funding (aka printing) is unlimited. A FED bureaucrat just increments an account somewhere in a ledger.

The theft of taxes by the IRS just continues whether this bill passes or not.

Wartime funding Schumer’s fat hind end. The is only in it for the grift spilling out of the Ukrainian laundromat.

The Ukrainian regime has put Tucker Carlson and various American conservative political commentators on their official Kill List.

How could any SCUM Republican vote to fund this regime after this?

"Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer said earlier that he would try to salvage the wartime funding"

Did I miss the declaration of war by Congress?

Bipartisan. Uh huh. In a compromise between good and evil, it is only evil that benefits.

Every time the funds get threatened take note of which politicians freak out, and take note of who fights for it and how hard they fight for it.
They’re on the take.
And ss you point out, Schumer is one of them.

The “deal” should consist of closing the borders and arresting anyone coming into America illegally and taking them back to Mexico. Those Illegal invaders are not our friends. America is going to pay for allowing all these freeloaders into our homes under the Bidenskyyyyyy regime. 13-15 million according to the latest figures.

Things appear ready to blow in the backrooms of the uniparty. McConnell tottering while sober, Rona about to be gone, Republicans scuttling the bill. Open borders falling apart. Sounds like the dam broke and the flood wave sweeping through the downstream villages and towns is caring the bejeezus out of a lot of folks who are suddenly afraid of the wrath of the lord. Was it like this in Italy when the patriots strung up Mussolini?

A $118B bill that included

$60 billion in military aid for Ukraine
$14.1 billion in aid for Israel
$4.83 billion in aid for the Indo-Pacific region
$10 billion in humanitarian assistance for Ukraine, Israel, Gaza, among other places
$2.3 billion in refugee assistance inside the U.S.
$20.2 billion for improvements to U.S. border security
$2.72 billion for domestic uranium enrichment

One has to get down to item 6 to even see anything for the border. So a $118B “border” bill included only $20B for the border (17%). And much if not all of that is misdirected, counterproductive or wrong.

“scuttling deal they had demanded from Democrats“

You have to go to AP via Yahoo to get that level of disgusting spin. The quote probably came directly from the DNC.
