If DeSantis thinks Trump will go to jail then lose the election then not be able to run the presidency from jail, that would explain DeSantis’s choices

We know DeSantis was bought and paid for so we rejected him, that is it.

There are many, myself included, who would have viewed DeSantis as our preferred early candidate for 2028…had he not got in bed with the perfidy Republican Party and their money men this time and just got behind Trump and backed him. Any other candidate would have had a much higher bar to clear, DeSantis would have been the default for the MAGA supporters.

But not only was he greedy, he was exceptionally stupid and destroyed his standing with MAGA…he listened to the political professionals…the “advisors”…who are both monumentally corrupt and monumentally stupid people. Now, it will be for me, and I’d suppose others like me, a very high bar, impossibly high practically, for me to even support in a lukewarm manner, someone who has gone for the dirty political money and acted so stupidly. In 2028, I’ll now be looking for practically anything (but NOT Nikki Haley ever) except DeSantis. He has almost irredeemably damaged himself with me…such a shame and so unnecessary.

he’s not his own man. He is owned...by the wealthy and foolish who kicked him out on the campaign trail for the Oval Office rather than making sure he got a Senate seat from Florida to season in for a couple of terms

What went wrong? He wasn’t proven to be a highly successful President with many outstanding Presidential achievements in his CV.

I think his ego got the best of him.

I can imagine it must be very flattering to have such powerful and influential people in your ear basically begging you to run. Not to mention the fact that once again, they (GOPe) completely underestimated Trump yet again.

I have said it before...I actually like Desantis but what I found out through this is his inability to read a room.

2028 was - and still could be - his time. If so, he needs to develop better instincts.

People don’t like ungrateful back stabbers“

Much more to it than that. Worst campaign l can remember. It was like he had a list of things that would cost support from the base and worked his through it checking every item on it.

“Wisdom would dictate dropping out and fully supporting and endorsing Donald Trump today”

Agreed—when you are deep in a hole the best thing to do is stop digging.

His campaign advisors will whisper sweet nothings in his ear hoping to stay on the payroll—he needs to ignore them and shut this disaster down.

It is only going to get worse from here.

He may have permanently sabotaged himself—the biggest Florida primary season disaster since Gary Hart got caught on the “Monkey Business”.

One thing you have to give him credit for...enormous credit:

MARTHA'S VINEYARD

It was a truly historic move..

That is one of the reasons why I like him. He has done a lot of things that I like.

One of his biggest mistakes was not coming out vigorously against the lawfare the deep state is using against Trump.

That 100% rubbed me the wrong way.

“so what the heck happened to him?”

The “experts” told him that Donald Trump would be in jail and that DeSantis would be the savior candidate.

The problem is that those “experts” badly misread Republican rank and file voters.

For most Republican voters today there are only two categories of politicians—those who support President Trump in his hour of need—and those who are stabbing him in the back.

That meant that this would not be a “normal” primary/caucus season. Emotions were going to run high and routine policy debates were going to become irrelevant.

The “experts” have no idea how to cope with that kind of political environment.

“He got in the race.”

Yes, indeed, he did.

My thought was that he should wait for Donald Trump to win his next four year term. A VP slot would be the best for RDS. If he didn’t want the VP, stay out of the race as the competition with Trump would bring up silly nicknames to suffer. etc.
Ron had poor judgement in entering the race. If he entered because he was encouraged by staff or friends, he proved poor judgement there, as well.
In summary, the Republicans are confused by the “uni-party, folks or “those in on the fix.”
Biden was beaten once, only to pull the stunt of excess ballots flooded in at the last hours/days, and steal the election. That trick must be prevented in 2024!

The election of 2020 was the beginning of the end of our Republic.
We must reverse the direction the Damnocrats have us headed on.
We need President Donald J Trump to lead us back to the correct path.

By the way, Merry Christmas and Happy New Year to all!

He’s an opportunistic backstabber. When America needs to unite behind Trump to bring justice to the 2020 coup that overthrew the US government.... he saw it as a chance to advance himself.

He showed himself to be swamp.

The fact is, against all reason, he decided to run against Trump instead of Biden, and doing so stepped on the third rail: he alienated his base.

He dissed Trump on the legal issues in NY, was snarky in talking to the press. Failed to support Trump when they raided his FL home. He showed total disloyalty to Trump. Finally, he listened to his consultants and not the voters.
What a waste of money his campaign was and it killed his future as a candidate.

That is precisely the problem. For the massive and loyal Trump base in the GOP, DeSantis would have been a credible choice for President in 2028 after Trump’s second term. By running against Trump though, DeSantis wrecked his own appeal through disloyalty to Trump.

He got in the race without being seasoned. It really takes about 20 years to become Presidential material, if you have the inherent qualities of being President in the first place.

That means, rightly, he needed to be ready for 2036 and not 2024. Even though he might have been barely sufficient for 2028.

I’m saying that as a guy who can see himself supporting DeSantis, if he proved himself ready.
