That is precisely the problem. For the massive and loyal Trump base in the GOP, DeSantis would have been a credible choice for President in 2028 after Trump’s second term. By running against Trump though, DeSantis wrecked his own appeal through disloyalty to Trump.
Kristi Noem proved to be a lot more politically savvy than DeSantis.
