The reason the US is the world super power is no land power can invade it. Carve out a new country and we will have a war for territory or water or ego. Say goodbye to world power status.

Too late. Texas made its only big mistake in 1845.

Yes, although I dislike the anti-Trump author F.H. Buckley (no relation) he wrote American Secession which goes into the issues involved. You are onto some key ones. The old US and the new free states would each want someone else to take care of the national debt and budget baby after the divorce.

I say the Commonwealth of Massachusetts should pay./S

“Hawaii? A nation before being annexed? Similar legal status?”

That argument has been made about both Hawaii and Alaska. Of the two, Hawaii has the most similarity.

Hawaii went from kingdom, to protectorate, to territory, to state.

It is indeed similar to Texas in that regard.

That’s only fair. Washington left Texas and the rest of the Red States a long time ago.

Zero chance this would be allowed to happen

Absolutely correct. Zero chance of happening, no matter how we vote or how much we want it.

We bought Alaska fair and square from the Tsar. The purchase, at the time, was derided as “Seward’s Folly”. The things we used to learn in history class ...

Between yellow gold and black gold, Seward arranged a VERY good deal.

Then there’s the whole business of Russia not having a foothold on the North American Continent.

If you earned Social Security benefits, you can visit or live in most foreign countries and still receive payments.

Don’t know about Medicare.

Don’t know about Medicare.

I believe some supplemental plans have coverage for overseas situations.

The federal government never recognized secession as legal but made all the Southern states apply and be readmitted to the Union.
