Iraq will ban the US dollar from the start of next year as the global movement against the greenback gathers pace, one of the country's top financial policymakers told Reuters.
People won't be able to withdraw cash in dollars or use the greenback in transactions from January 1, 2024, Iraqi central bank director-general of investment and remittances Mazen Ahmed said in an interview with the outlet.

Well, just a couple of weeks ago they were delighted to get several Billion US Dollars from The First International Bammy Bank of Mathhha’s Vineyard. Oh, unfortunately no catering could be provided.
We need purple fingers here in the US if it is to survive.
Yeah, if the dollar was not seen as a preferable alternative then they wouldn’t need to ban it by law.
Which is why the USA doesn’t have any laws like this. If you want to arrange purchases in euros, or pesos, or shekels, we don’t really care, because we know that practice will not catch on to where it’s going to disrupt much of anything.
So the palettes of cash delivered will be returned
Does this mean the throngs of US GIs in the 2nd Gulf War who bought Iraqi Dinar on the cheap will finally come good on that investment?
