Kevin McCarthy failed in an initial vote to block an effort to oust him by Rep. Matt Gaetz, putting his position as House speaker in peril.
Gaetz’s "motion to vacate" the speakership will now head for an official vote.
To prevail, McCarthy or his foes will need a majority of those voting, not just Republicans. Typically Republicans can lose no more than four GOP votes on party-line votes when all members are present. Democratic leaders recommended Tuesday that colleagues vote against saving McCarthy.
McCarthy should have NEVER been selected Speaker.
I don’t get it. Why are these “anointed ones” always the most corrupt, unqualified for these leadership positions. It’s like almost no one opposes them, until recently at least.

I'm not a big McCarthy fan, but it seems like Gaetz is "cutting off his nose to spite his face" - we could end up with Nanzi again!

Look, people, all he had to do was tell his own caucus the truth.
THAT MEANS NOT BRING BILLS TO THE FLOOR OPPOSED BY A MAJORITY OF HIS OWN CAUCUS.
It’s not complicated. That’s all he had to do. He is going to bring Ukraine funding to the floor and it is opposed by a majority of his own caucus.
Does this mean he can’t govern? Nobody sent him there to govern. He was sent there to represent his voters, and then when he sought to be Speaker, he was sent to that office to represent the majority of his caucus.
If he had done that and only that, this would not be happening.

In this kind of thing, you shouldn’t start something unless you have control of how it ends. Otherwise, it looks a tantrum particularly if you end up with something worse.
I just want someone in there who will keep their word. Nothing more, nothing less. McCarthy had one job and didn’t do it.

It’s amazing that our side nominates the biggest scum and vermin into leadership. McConnell, Hastert, Boner, Ryan, and this clown.
