'Our Tesla insurance is DOUBLE what we pay for our gas car!' Married couple is shocked to discover high cost of covering electric vehicles - so why DO insurers penalize eco-drivers?
UK Daily Mail ^ | 9/17/2023 | Neirin Gray

'When they're damaged, the cost of repair is higher,' she said. Since electric cars have fewer components, when one does fail its more expensive to replace. That means insurers may prefer writing off a car over repairing it.

Unlike in the past when a windshield could be replaced with relative ease, the sensors that go into them now mean traditionally simple repairs have become longwinded and expensive. That also means they can take a while, leaving the insurance company responsible for renting a replacement car for the customer for even longer periods.

'If an electric vehicle is involved in a car crash, the likelihood of it being declared totaled is sometimes greater than a gas-powered vehicle because the cost of that battery can be half the price of the car,'

Tesla has introduced its own insurance service, available in 12 states, and claims it 'uniquely understands its vehicles, technology, safety and repair costs, eliminating traditional insurance carriers' additional charges'.

But some owners who have taken out Tesla policies complain that while they were initially offered well-priced premiums, data collected by the car on how they drive was soon used against them.

Tesla insurance policy holders can be penalized for accelerating too fast, passing too close to other vehicles, and even driving after 10pm.

I don’t have a problem with that - drive too fast, drive more miles than others, pass cars dangerously, live in a city that has high crime and/or lots of insurance fraud - you should pay more than me.

Feel the same about health insurance - want to be a lazy slob that overeats, and smoke three packss of cigarettes a day - go for it - but you should pay the extra cost for your extra care.

People who make responsible decisions should benefit, those that don’t should feel the effect of those poor decisions.

EVs are going to usher in numerous New Taxes.

They are holding off until the transition is close to 50%.

Daddy always told me “when you’re thinking about purchasing a vehicle call your insurance company first and get a quote.”

He also told me “if you really want something and you think you really need it, wait two weeks.”

What a hoot!

penalized for accelerating too fast, isn't that one of the prime selling points?

passing too close to other vehicles, what does that even mean?

even driving after 10pm, OMG!

I wonder if home owner’s insurance will cover the loss of the house, in that case?

"so why DO insurers penalize eco-drivers?"

Ummmmm ... the same reason that auto insurers penalize high performance car drivers? Because they cost the insurance companies more money in claims?

The same reason that life insurance companies penalize smokers and the obese?

It is the same with a gun. Shoot too fast (full automatic) and you have to pay extra.

For Shreve, that was a shock. The data consultant decided to invest in an electric car after Covid when he had the opportunity to work from home and did not need the longer range of a gas vehicle.

"Invest" in an electric car? A new car is not an investment. It never has been.

He shoulda bought a 10-year old Toyota Corolla and put the rest of the money in Tesla stock.

Many cars are like this now. My newest car is a 2018 Subaru and getting the windshield replaced was a big ordeal thanks to the collision avoidance/lane change cameras. Between taxes and other expenses, I'm done buying new cars and just going to keep getting my existing ones fixed up.

Insurers don’t penalize EV drivers.

But watch out for some insane politician to call for lower premiums for EVs (which would be paid for by higher premiums on gas cars.)

Feel the same about health insurance - want to be a lazy slob that overeats, and smoke three packss of cigarettes a day - go for it - but you should pay the extra cost for your extra care.
And the ACA allows for insurance companies to charge smokers up to 50% more (or premiums that are 1.5 times higher) than non-smokers through a tobacco surcharge. - https://www.healthmarkets.com/resources/health-insurance/smoking-and-health-insurance/
The next time you sign up for health insurance, you’ll be asked whether you smoke and how often. If you smoke or vape or chew tobacco regularly, you can count on being hit with a hefty premium increase of up to 50%, either at work or if you’re buying an Affordable Care Act (ACA) Obamacare plan on the Exchange Marketplace.... Health insurers consider you a smoker, subject to a hefty premium surcharge if you used any tobacco products four or more times a week in the past six month.. Some regular smokers facing a steep premium increase may be tempted to avoid telling the truth. Don’t do it. If you’re not honest about tobacco, you risk being charged with insurance fraud. - https://healthcareinsider.com/health-insurance-smokers-42747

Exposure of contrast:

However, if you choose to engage in sodomy, then,

PrEP [Pre-Exposure Prophylaxis], the HIV prevention pill, must now be totally free under almost all insurance plans.... The rule says insurers must not charge copays, coinsurance or deductible payments for the quarterly clinic visits and lab tests required to maintain a PrEP prescription. - https://www.nbcnews.com/nbc-out/out-health-and-wellness/prep-hiv-prevention-pill-must-now-totally-free-almost-insurance-plans-rcna1470

Mar 3, 2022 — The costs can be daunting: a monthly supply of PrEP runs $60 for a generic and up to $2,000 for brand-name drugs like Truvada and Descovy. - https://kffhealthnews.org/news/article/prep-hiv-prevention-costs-covered-problems-insurance/
A few states have their own drug assistance programs that cover out-of-pocket expenses for PrEP. Some will also cover the costs of doctor visits and lab tests. Requirements to qualify for these programs differ by state.
States with PrEP assistance programs are: California Colorado District of Columbia Illinois Massachusetts New York state Ohio Washington state - https://www.talktomira.com/post/how-much-is-prep-how-to-get-it-for-free-truvana-descovy

Which raises raises private insurance rates and or taxes for all who pay them.

Of 3508 sexually active, HIV‐negative MSM, 34% met indications [condition that leads to the recommendation] for PrEP. The proportion with current PrEP use was 32% among MSM meeting indications and 11% among those without indications. - https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC8488229/#:~:text=Results,11%25%20among%20those%20without%20indications)

Thus sodomy is promoted and at the expense of all, and while I seek the salvation of such and all, the argument that this and all STD's and immorality do not affect others is not true. It is just a matter of degrees.

Moreover, the basis for receiving "protected status" has been expanded from such non-moral aspects as race, skin color, ethnicity, and gender, to those which choose a lifestyle based upon how they feel "oriented" (claiming to being "born that way") yet that has been responsible for over 80% of new HIV cases among men (and 66% overall)* and primarily responsible approx. for over 800,000 American deaths. And even with PreP, and partially because of it, then it is also much responsible for a greatly increased incidence of other infectious diseases,   from Meningitis to Monkey pox , including Chlamydia, Gonorrhea, Hepatitis A and B, HPV, Syphilis, HIV to Meningitis and body dysmorphia and eating disorders and recently Monkey pox. Gay, bisexual, and other men who have sex with men have accounted for 83% of primary and secondary syphilis cases where sex of sex partner was known in the United States. Gay, bisexual, and other men who have sex with men have been found to be 17 times more likely to get anal cancer than heterosexual men. Besides such diseases, even when their disease is well controlled, people with HIV can develop aging-related conditions such as cardiovascular disease, certain cancers, kidney and liver disease, osteoporosis, and cognitive impairment decades ahead of their HIV-negative counterparts, and their life expectancy is significantly reduced.)

Much more here.

If a consensual religious practice (by those who feel a certain way, being "born again" that way) - lets say the Lord's supper resulted in such stats - despite only representing approximately 4% of the male population - and despite decades of attempting to tame it into being "safe," - at significant y taxpayer expense - then it would be treated as Covid-19 or worse.

God made man and women distinctively different yet uniquely compatible and complementary, and only joined them together in marriage - as the Lord Jesus Himself specified (Mt. 19:4–6) - and Scripture only condemns homosexual relations wherever they are manifestly dealt with.

Yet there is still room at the cross for all who will come to God in repentance and faith, and trust in the Divine Son of God sent by the Father, the risen Lord Jesus, to save them on His account, by His sinless shed blood, and thus be baptized and live for Him. Acts 10:36-47

Simple facts: Electric vehicles are a hoax designed to limit our ability to travel and control our lives.

Ford is being bribed by Joey to build electric cars and they are not selling because even the phonies on the left see that this is a virtue signal that is too expensive.

The UAW is actually fighting for America’s future with this strike which they will win. The workers know what is going on and they know it will come to an end when the Biden Crime Family collapses.
Elon Musk is NOT a good guy. He is part of the plot.
