Romney explored creating new political party with Manchin: book

Sen. Mitt Romney (R-Utah) explored creating a new political party with fellow centrist Sen. Joe Manchin (D-W.Va.), according to an excerpt released Wednesday in Romney’s forthcoming biography.

“They’d talked about the prospect before, but it was always hypothetical. Now Romney wanted to make it real,” the book excerpt reads. “His goal for the yet-unnamed party … would be to promote the kind of centrist policies he’d worked on with Manchin in the Senate.”

Romney’s plans for the party, according to the biography excerpt, would not be to support a separate candidate, but to “pledge support to the candidate who came closest to aligning with its agenda.”

The “working slogan” for the party, Romney said in the book, was “stop the stupid.”

Willard should make an honest woman of himself and come out as a Democrat.

I heard that Mitt Romney is not seeking reelection to the U.S. Senate.

Can anyone from Utah confirm this?

Hallelujah if it is true.

There are few things in politics that make me want to spit as do “Centrist” and “Moderate” Republican.

Finding “middle ground” with Democrats and other Leftists is compromising with evil, and allowing “less” of it.

Worse, the “Centrists” and “Moderates” in the Republican party cause even deeper damage that the Democrats and other Leftists would have done than if they had accomplished their evil on their own without the help of Republicans, because that “cooperation” introduces the stench of “bipartisanship” because the Left gets what they want, and they can say “The Republicans wanted this too...”

“Spit.”

Moderate, centrist, bipartisanship, these are words of the unprincipled and weak minded.

Abstractly, it is not all that difficult to be the opposite. It begins with the choice of whether you believe in God or do you believe you are God. Your values stem from one or the other. Add a layer of wisdom to that and you can form principles. It takes some thinking to get to that point. These wishy washy centrists lack the strength and perhaps the ability to think these things through. They stand for nothing. That is weakness at its greatest.

Before you get to overjoyed that Romney is out of the Senate, think about what this new party could mean.

If Romney runs for President as a 3rd party candidate could he get 2-4% of the vote to keep Trump from winning is what I would be worried about.

Look at the states that every Republican must win in order to win the election, how many of those states are usually very close where 2-4% could change the outcome of that state.

Two examples, Georgia and Arizona, without those 2 states, no Republican including Trump can win, both have been extremely close in recent elections, 1-2% might swing the outcome, 2-4% definitely would swing the outcome.

Throw in states like North Carolina, Nevada, Wisconsin, and sometimes states like Florida, Pennsylvania, Michigan, could become impossible for a Republican to win.

We know Romney can’t stand Trump, if Romney thinks he has a good chance to deny Trump the election, he will do it in a second.

A Willard/Manchin party sounds like a good idea. It isolates this group from the rest of the other two parties, and it creates revenue when they rent the Best Western conference center in Toledo for their convention.
