Trump and DeSantis Are on a Mission to Destroy the Civil Service
Intelligencer via MSN ^ | 15 Jun 23 | Ed Kilgore

It’s not terribly surprising that Donald Trump wants to tear that system down. His idol, after all, is Andrew Jackson, who championed the “spoils system” as a populist revolt against the emergence of a cadre of professional administrators who remained in federal offices for multiple administrations. But for all his talk of “clearing the swamp” and replacing “deep state” civil servants with his own loyal supporters, Trump didn’t make destruction of the civil-service system a key first-term priority. It wasn’t until October 2020 that he issued an executive order creating a new Schedule F classification of political appointees to include most policymaking positions in the higher levels of the bureaucracy. Like a lot of alarming things Trump proposed, Schedule F didn’t get implemented, and Joe Biden quickly revoked the executive order and restored the traditional civil service.

--snip--

Like Trump, DeSantis believes that federal law-enforcement agencies are abusing power systematically whenever they get in the way of conservative policy initiatives or prosecute Republican officeholders. So his makeover plan will focus on decapitating the FBI and the Department of Justice generally, according to Philip Wegmann of RealClearPolitics:

Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis has been working for months on plans to tear down and rebuild both the Department of Justice and the FBI, consulting with experts and members of Congress to develop a “Day One” strategy to end what conservatives see as the weaponization of the justice system.

The governor has privately told advisors that he will hire and fire plenty of federal personnel, reorganize entire agencies, and execute a “disciplined” and “relentless” strategy to restore the Justice Department to a mission more in line with what the “Founding Fathers envisioned.”

I would still like to see a Trump/DeSantis ticket in 2024 and then 8 years of DeSantis after that.

Government employees have become part of an oligarchy that cares little about those that pay taxes and ultimately their salaries. They vote en bloc Democrat and pass regulations and laws that are not approved by those that generate income and pay the majority of taxes. Yes, the system needs a complete reboot.

No, civil service became a bloated safe haven for political subversives to exercise power. If you want to do service, join the Navy. Kill this beast. Fire the top 2/3 of the FBI and offer a bounty to anyone left with the courage to point to, seek out, report the missing bodies. Do the same with DOJ. We keep feeding the cancer that is killing us.

Civil Service is where TERM LIMITS are needed.

Politicians are easily term limited by We The People if we would use our power.

Modern day Dims are trying to blame Republicans for the history of Andrew Jackson -- who pretty much started the Dim party and did the Trail of Tears astrocity.

One thing we ought to give Jackson credit for, tough, is he did pay off the national debt (probably not quite completely, but enough to deserve an atta-boy).

Outlaw public sector unions. Make all positions in government ‘at-will’. Limit all government employment to a maximum 12 years. Eliminate all government employee retirement plans. They can invest on their own. No one should become wealthy through employment in government. It should not be a career.

All government unions should be abolished.

All unions should be abolished. Thee are now enough employee safeguards and job availability that they are no longer needed.

The civil service is full of leaches.

Maybe 1/2 of them are professional, qualified, competent, and actually give a damn.

Many see civil service as an easy job with the ultimate in job security, great benefits, where with a garbage degree in sociology or divinity (as long as it’s some bachelors) and low productivity you can bring in an excellent salary for as long as you have a pulse.

Long gone is the era where the civil service lags behind the private sector. It’s for many a step up in terms of pay, job security, and benefits.

Jimi Hendrix play briefly in Little Richard’s backup band, and also in James Brown’s Famous Flames band. He didn’t last long in either. He was told “ain’t room but for one star up on this stage”.

I like both Trump and DeSantis, would love to see it. I don’t think Trump could tolerate anyone as VP who would take the attention away from himself, pretty common in politics and why Presidents usually have some nebbish as VP.

Spoils system?

~~~
Right?
That’s not a biased or propagandist term at all! /sarc
Marxist love the administrative state. In most of their systems, they are small but very powerful group if people underneath the tyrant. In marxist ecology, the administrative state takes the place of aristocrats. Unfortunately for them, they would be best advised to live it up while they can because they tend to get consumed by lateral as well as top down power struggles.
We supposedly still have a constitutional representative republic, but it looks more and more that it’s all a puppet show to keep up the illusion that protects our administrative autocrats.
