Trump banned from publicly discussing evidence in DA Bragg ‘hush money’ case

Former President Donald Trump has been banned from talking — or posting — about certain evidence uncovered in the Manhattan District Attorney’s “hush money” criminal case.

Justice Juan Merchan handed down the ruling Thursday during a Manhattan Supreme Court hearing after prosecutors sought a protective order to restrict Trump, 76, from publicly revealing any evidence handed over to his legal team as the case unfolds.

The judge — who insisted he was not imposing a “gag order” — said Trump was prohibited from talking about evidence specifically obtained by the DA’s Office and turned over to the defense to prepare for trial, including people’s names or personal information.

“I am not going to do anything … to infringe on his First Amendment rights,” the judge said.

Yuge! How is this not prior restraint?

The judge — who insisted he was not imposing a “gag order” — said Trump was prohibited from talking about evidence

Okay, let’s just call it an unconstitutional abuse of a private citizen’s first amendment rights instead of a gag order.

Banning someone from publicly speaking about a case, is infringing upon his first amendment rights. The evidence for or against Trump will eventually be known. There are ways to ‘leak’ the evidence, and it could happen or should happen.

Why put Trump’s age prominently in the article?

They will be emphasizing more and more that he is only 4 years younger than Biden... so look to see his age prominently displayed from here on out...

Age is a number, senility isn’t.

How about PATENTLY unconstitutional?

The judge needs to be tarred, feathered, and run out of town on a rail.

But then that’s true of a lot of judges!

Trump will not get a fair trial in NYC. Just another lib judge looking out for a lib prosecutor.

“I am not going to do anything … to infringe on his First Amendment rights,” the judge said.

... he added: however, the prosecution, and by extension the MSM, shall remain unfettered by this court to control all aspects of the narrative. Obviously, they'll be free to dribble out all the half-truth deceptions and slimy innuendo that are required to slander the guilty party's character and hog-tie him with expense and procedure through the months leading up to election season and beyond as necessary. It is the court's duty to defend Our Democracy™

I too noticed that a few days ago.

Probably because it's owned by Rupert Murdoch, 92. That's the same Rupert Murdoch, 92, who wants to make Trump a "non person".

President Trump needs to give Bragg 24 bucks worth of beads and tell the boy to call it a day.

Can’t have that flimsy and phony evidence in the public sphere...someone might do a little research that’ll help Trump [kinda like Community Notes on Twit, debunking lefty lies in real time]. And the gov. can’t allow that. Gets too hard to railroad the target.

Any gag (or ill-defined gag) order is blatantly unconstitutional.

Period.

A defendant should be able to say whatever he or she wants — regardless how it helps, or more likely, hurts their case. If a judge is concerned about a defendant’s words, they can simply sequester the jury.

Unfortunately, we are at a point in our country where — amazingly — the First Amendment is null and void...

Well then reporters shouldn’t ask about it then, right?

Pretty much every article about a person, especially a politician, seems to do that. I’ve never understood why it is relevant.

what trump should do is a lawsuit naming those individuals and the info uncovered...the judge can stop him from talking he can’t stop a sepret lawsuit from being filed. even if it’s a looser of a law suit it would have the effect of going around the judges order and there is nothing the judge can do because the documents filed in the suit are public documents. he can even do it in a different court where that judge has no control.
