Political endorsements can affect scientific credibility
Nature ^

Posted on 03/21/2023 9:04:37 PM PDT by ameribbean expat

In 2020, Nature endorsed Joe Biden in the US presidential election. A survey finds that viewing the endorsement did not change people’s views of the candidates, but caused some to lose confidence in Nature and in US scientists generally.

Why would Nature make an endorsement?

Mother Nature is not infallible; she erred.

Why would Nature make an endorsement?

Because Nature has been captured by the Global Warming scare.

They publish all kinds of articles touting the evils of the Carbon economy while I have not seen any articles that debunk the manmade Environmental catastrophism theories.

I wonder if Nature can define what a woman is, or tell the difference between male and female chromosomes?

These geniuses are just now figuring this out?

They’ve managed to turn all sciences into “political science”. Truly disgusting!

Why would Nature make an endorsement?

Because Trump is literally Hitler. Cobbler stick to your last.

From President Eisenhower's farewell address:

The prospect of domination of the nation's scholars by Federal employment, project allocations, and the power of money is ever present and is gravely to be regarded.

Yet, in holding scientific research and discovery in respect, as we should, we must also be alert to the equal and opposite danger that public policy could itself become the captive of a scientific-technological elite.

We have seen both in the past few years. Anyone opposing "science" or even the human incarnation of science, Dr. Fauci, is silenced and quarantined from society lest his doubt infect others while government funding and thus the ability to do research is removed from scientists who don't toe the line.

The British like to think they're America's betters. Nature was also the source of the fake “research” that showed Thomas Jefferson fathered a child with a slave. It was a way of defending Bill Clinton so they've been into using science to advance political leftism for awhile.

Nature may be a British magazine, but it’s leftist bias is the same as that of old American magazines like National Geographic and Scientific American. These publications have long ago abandoned neutrality.

True but Nature isn't just any old magazine, it's one of the world's premier scientific journals.
The only thing that rivals it is IMO is the journal Science (American) which occasionally journey's into leftist propaganda itself ( the gay gene).
These are powerful journals which can do and have done a lot of damage in the name of leftist politics.

Nature is stone commue, reflecting its audience, hard core academics.

Don't get me wrong, I admire the quality of their work, which is stratospheric.

But these are people who paradoxically haven't got a lick of sense, plus they all despise the USA.

Witness Covid.

"Oh I know what let's do. Let's take a zoonotic respiratory virus and alter it to make it much more deadly and contagious in humans. And let's do it in China, where our worst enemies are. We will be famous. And the Chinese would never release it as a bioweapon."

How is a British magazine’s endorsement any different from Russia buying Facebook ads when it relates to foreign election interference?
