Scott Walker says no to Wisconsin Senate run

Former Wisconsin Gov. Scott Walker (R) ruled out a run for the U.S. Senate on Monday, keeping a big name on the sidelines in the GOP’s push to oust Sen. Tammy Baldwin (D-Wis.) next year.

Walker told the Milwaukee-Journal Sentinel in an interview that he plans to stay put as chairman of the Young America’s Foundation (YAF), an organization aimed at promoting conservatism to students and young adults, through 2025. He added that he’s not interested in the position after spending two terms in the Madison governor’s mansion.

“Plus, I don’t see myself in the Senate,” Walker said. “After getting so much done as Governor, I would be bored as senator.”

Walker became the head of YAF in 2021, having lost his 2018 reelection campaign to Wisconsin Gov. Tony Evers (D).

Is Walker even still popular in WI?

Walker popular outside of Milwaukee/Madison. Fact is I don’t see any GOP winning a statewide race anytime in the near future. Madison/Milwaukee has perfected their ballot harvesting schemes. It was a miracle Johnson won.

Gov. Walker ran a terrible campaign in 2018.
He would get battered in any primary due to his friendly relationship with Paul Ryan - Toxic and non-starter with many of us. On the other side, nothing would cause more glee to take him out politically due to his ballsy stand on Act 10 and subsequent enactment

His run for the presidency while not quite ready for that prime of a time, knocked his reputation down a couple of notches.

He ran a campaign as a tired and bored candidate. It clearly showed. The results allowed him to retire to a nice, well-paying, cushy job. Very little passion in his last reelection effort.

If he’s our best candidate and declines the seat is them unwinnable. Tommy Thompson pulled the same thing. Senate was not good enough but the WH was. Then when the senate was ok he lost. I do believe that to be the case. The party’s not worth it. Even a losing effort will use up more rat resources. Our leaders are cowards.

He's doing great work at YAF, and YAF is doing great work developing young conservatives - I've gotten to see them in action. If his job is "cushy", Walker is still doing important work for the conservative movement.

I certainly don’t want to take anything away from the organization or his managing it. I said that as an illustration that I personally believe his heart really wasn’t in his reelection effort. He also had previously ran for president. He was/is young and clearly wanted something else or something more. Not critical of him beyond the fact that he effectively handed the governorship to the Dems.

Duffy-nice looking fella. Those things count. Hope he’s not doing a Sarah Palin and enjoying the good life while Rome is falling. If he’s the best candidate he should run. In this business it’s like a lawyer agreeing to take on a case. They want to get in and out fast with a good chance to win. The in and out factor has to do with the 6 year terms. Good chance to win? That’s what separates the men from the boys. Our leaders are girlie-men.

Thanks for the ping.

Scott Walker went through hell and back as our Governor. The rabid Socialists in this state did everything short of killing the family dog. Death threats against our Governor, his wife, his boys, his parents. He and his family were terrorized.

If I were him, I wouldn’t run for the Senate either, though another viable candidate against Tammy (D, Lesbian, WI) Useless Baldwin isn’t even in the pipeline that I can see, other than maybe a re-hash of Rebecca Kleefisch or Tim Michels?

I’ll see if my friend, who is now the WI GOP Chairman, has anything to say about it. He’s pretty tight lipped these days so hopefully someone is being prepared for their turn at bat. You guys will be the first to know! ;)

Come on Diane. You know as well as everyone it starts with name recognition. Walker was 1st on the list. Somebody form the JV team?

JD Vance had a book as well as a movie on him. Oz? What a loser. Wisconsin is going the way of Pennsylvania. As hard as Johnson’s reelection was there’s no incumbency to fall back on. Where’s the fight?
