Trump allies say DeSantis running illegal ‘shadow campaign’ for president
NY Post ^ | March 15, 2023 1:13pm | Mark Moore

President Donald Trump took his attacks on Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis to a new level Wednesday, as a super PAC linked to the 76-year-old accused his would-be rival of ethics violations tied to what it calls DeSantis’ “shadow presidential campaign.”

A draft of the 15-page letter by Make America Great Again Inc. calls on the Florida Commission on Ethics to investigate DeSantis, alleging that the 44-year-old has violated a slew of state statutes as well as federal campaign finance laws.

The complaint refers to DeSantis as a “de facto candidate for president” and claims that the governor is “leveraging his elected office and breaching his associated duties in a coordinated effort to develop his national profile, enrich himself and his political allies, and influence the national electorate.”

“Governor DeSantis’ failure to declare his candidacy is no mere oversight,” the complaint alleged. “[I]t is a coordinated effort to specifically designed for him to accept, as unethical gifts, illegal campaign contributions and certain personal benefits that are necessarily intended to influence his official decision to resign from office under Florida’s resign to run law.

“Governor DeSantis’ ham-handed maneuverings,” the complaint added, “have rendered him irreparably conflicted and have left the statehouse vacant.”

The letter includes as evidence that DeSantis has “abused his office and abdicated his official duties in favor of pursuing his national political interests” the fact that the governor has “met with influential figures in early primary states,” “is vetting operatives in early primary states,” and “met with individuals who are likely to play key roles in his presidential campaign.”

The letter asks that the commission impose one or more penalties including impeachment, removal from office, public censure, ballot disqualification and fines.

“For a man who prides himself on making “Deals...” and his professed love of the Country, Trump does not seem to care much about a future America beyond himself. Maddening and Sad.”

It’s time for new leadership. Trump should retire and spend his last years with his grandchildren

What is the benefit of beating on RDS rather than BiXiden and the Biden Crime Family [protected by the Fey Wray and the Meritless Garland]?

Because Trump has done more to empower the Deep State and put the proper Deep State actors in positions of authority (Wray).

DeSantis is a threat to the Deep State so Trump is trying to take him out.

I guarantee Gov Ron’s lawyers are better than Trump’s usual version of Kraken. Trump continues to embarrass himself and take down others with him. Not that he cares.

No you need to learn how to read what the statute actually states and not depend on the spin by those filing suit.

From Florida Division of Elections,
“Governing law: An elected or appointed “officer” may not qualify as a candidate for another state, district, county or municipal public office if the terms or any part of the terms would overlap with each other if the person were to be
elected or appointed and did not resign from the office the person presently holds.”

It does not require DeSantis to resign before running for president. It prohibits him being a qualified candidate for more than one office IF those offices would be served concurrently. He can campaign for president or another office while governor. He can’t serve as both, which should be obvious.

It is all moot though because there is an exception for candidates for federal office.

What’s it to you? I never heard, ever, Desantis say he would run for president. I did hear him say he is Governor of Florida. But really what difference does it make to you?

You may not realize but the Florida Legislature is in session right now, it will be ongoing for a few more weeks, there is no way DeSantis is going announce anything before that ends.

So Trump is trying to get DeSantis impeached? This plays into DeSantis’ favor. For all the good Trump has done, a number of Republican voters are open to the argument that Trump’s abrasive personality will turn off just enough voters (Suburban Moms among others) to give Biden a second term by a squeaker.

Utter, vile, disgusting trash. Is there no depth to which Trump’s campaign will sink? This makes “Cruz’s Dad killed Castro” look honorable in contrast.

De Santis can ignore Trump’s maniacal rankings, knowing he’s pushing his staunch supporters further and further away, and into the DeSantis camp.

Trump’s just being Trump - calling ‘em as he sees ‘em. And I love it. It’s so refreshing to have a guy who simply tells it straight like he sees it. And without the b#ll sh#t political-fall-out hand-wringing these useless politicians spend their lives doing.

DeSanits some across more and more like Cruz did in 2016.

I doubt he’s afraid of DeSantis but is telling the guy to play it straight or get out.

DeSantis has taken over for Trump and has actually been doing MAGA things. Trump divides his time between whining about the 2020 election and attacking fellow Republicans.

You left out the Section that is a subsection to which reads,

110.223(4) As an individual, each employee retains all rights and obligations of citizenship provided in the Constitution and laws of the state and the Constitution and laws of the United States. However, no employee in the career service shall:..”

You also left out this part of 110.223(4)(a), “However, when authorized by his or her agency head and approved by the department as involving no interest which conflicts or activity which interferes with his or her state employment, an employee in the career service may be a candidate for or hold local public office. The department shall prepare and make available to all affected personnel who make such request a definite set of rules and procedures consistent with the provisions herein.”

“The complaint refers to the Sunshine State law that states: “No person may qualify as a candidate for more than one public office, whether federal, state, district, county, or municipal, if the terms or any part thereof run concurrently with each other.”

Says nothing along the lines of “No person may to prepare to run for another office” or even “No person shall seek the nomination for another office.”

After claiming that Cruz wasn’t eligible, Trump is starting to remind me of the Iranian Ayatollahs.

***

Exactly right. My state of PENNSYLVANIA is permanently screwed since Trump inserted himself into the 2022 election here.

We are now ruled by people like Fetterman at all levels.

Every Republican I voted for did NOT win, thanks to Trump, who stunned us by endorsing people who lost.

Haha.... all good.

I like both Trump and DeSantis. (my governor)

I’d like to see Trump in 24 and DeSantis in 28.

The left seems to be trying to stir up trouble within our ranks by pitting them against one another, despite the fact that DeSantis isn’t, and won’t be, running in 24.

DeSantis isn’t running. (Do I need to post this 3 times, too?)

No, DeSantis needs to say it -- once!

I think it would be wise for him to honor his earlier statements that he would not contest Trump

He’s never said any such thing.

But it is not the left stirring up trouble., when Trump himself is making these critical statements about DeSantis.
