This is the federal pay scale for the Los Angeles Geographical area.

A typical federal employee would start out as a GS-7/GS-9 and get step increases for longevity and/or get promotions to reach journeyman level or supervisory positions typically GS-13 and higher.

Some positions are in a high grade and non-supervisory. For example, at LAX Tower, the journey grade for Air Traffic Controllers is a GS-14, so a non-supervisory controller who is at the mid-point in step increases is currently earning $145,326/yr.

They probably need the extra money to pay the laid off Twitter workers, who are being hired by the FBI. Those workers don’t come cheap. They are used to earning big money for little work.

As a Federal employee I think this is unnecessary. However, it will allow me to help more people legally buy firearms. My friends definitely appreciate the last 5% increase we got. They probably wouldn’t have become concealed carriers otherwise.

Congress tied their remuneration to federal wages to get around the amendment that required them to vote and go on record when raising their own pay.

I agree with your proposal. Giving a raise on one hand is fine as long as some program or funding plan of equal or greater value is terminated permanently. I suggest that the Civil Service terminate a number of dead-wood employees. The number should exceed by at least 10% the number of new IRS agents scheduled to start sucking at the taxpayer’s teat.

With a 70% reduction in the number of federal employees, the federal money-laundering operations for wokeness, climate-change, and covid operations, a pay increase or 2% MIGHT be justified...

As a side note - Anyone raising the idea of TERM LIMITS is full of crap unless they start with Fed.gov bureaucrats

Think about people like Fauci, Comey, Wellensky - who ever elected them? yet they’ve gathered huge power by spending decades in DC, spending your tax $$.

Hot crackers! On top of the 4.3% a month ago?

This is good news. It means we’ll be getting 13% more productivity out of FedGov workers.

Pay based on performance metrics to unions is like garlic to vampires.

According to the American Conservative Union, in 2021, Brian FitzRINOpatrick is the lowest rated “Republican” member of Congress at 33 out of 100.

That puts him lower than Fred Upton (38), lower than Susan Collins (41), lower than Adam Kinzinger (42), Lower and Lisa Murkowski (49).

To be fair, if he switched to the dark side, he would be the highest rated democRAT at one point above Manchin.

Just curious...are they having a problem finding people who want to take these jobs at the current salaries and benefits. My guess is “no”. That should be a clue that they do not broadly need a pay raise.

You probably know that federal pay is based on location (”locality pay”).

If major parts of the bureaucracy were moved out of the “high cost” DC area and to any low cost areas the .gov would save a fortune in wages.

If major parts of the bureaucracy were moved out of the “high cost” DC area and to any low cost areas the .gov would save a fortune in wages.

Huge numbers would decline the transfer and settle for an early retirement. Recent hires would simply quit, but longer term employees not eligible for early retirement and with no chance of private sector employment would be forced to move.

Much dead wood would be cleaned out but, unfortunately, not all.

Lazy ass government employees need to be unemployed, not given raises. They are one of the causes of this economic mess. Let them be real Americans and build something in the private sector with their own damn money, not hardworking taxpayers.

I’m a federal employee and we could use more conservative, smart employees. Freepers should apply using usajobs.gov
