House Speaker Kevin McCarthy (R-CA) reaffirmed his position on proxy voting Thursday morning, stating lawmakers “have to show up to work” instead of having someone else vote for them.
“No more proxy voting,” the speaker said Thursday morning on Twitter. “Effective immediately, Members of Congress have to show up to work if they want their vote to count.”
McCarthy, who already had a successful week as Speaker, reaffirmed his position on proxy voting, which was set in place after becoming Speaker and the House passing the rules package. The rules package was adopted on a slim 220–213 margin and did not include a provision for proxy voting to be allowed in the House, essentially putting an end to the major battle since it was adopted.

Now mandate that everybody must be present and awake for a complete and total reading of any bill they intend to vote on
Good for him. Get their lazy a**** to the chamber. This is only about voting anyways. Only a handful ever show up and I don’t think Kevin can do anything about that.
No more proxy voting anywhere. Show up unless military or legit out of country absentee.
Good for McCarthy.
Show up and do your job like the rest of us.
IT is about time.
Let be at the ballot box as it is in The House.
Showing up to work is a white man rule, and therefore racist!
I’m respecting him so far. Maybe Trump actually has one good pick out of the bunch.
Poor Greg Stuebe.
That’ll learn ‘em to draft thousand page monstrosities.
Thank you!
Score one for McCarthy, no doubt about that. Let’s see who squeaks...
So far, so good. Keep it up Kevin!
“Only a handful ever show up and I don’t think Kevin can do anything about that.”
How about having the Republicans stay in town on Friday when the Dems are gone. Spend all day voting on, and moving legislation.
Not convinced just yet.
But a good start.
Also throwing scum off their comittees.
Too funny.
No proxy voting for any American.
This is one time I hope I was wrong. So far so good, hope he can keep it up.
