House Speaker Kevin McCarthy (R-CA) reaffirmed his position on proxy voting Thursday morning, stating lawmakers “have to show up to work” instead of having someone else vote for them.

“No more proxy voting,” the speaker said Thursday morning on Twitter. “Effective immediately, Members of Congress have to show up to work if they want their vote to count.”

McCarthy, who already had a successful week as Speaker, reaffirmed his position on proxy voting, which was set in place after becoming Speaker and the House passing the rules package. The rules package was adopted on a slim 220–213 margin and did not include a provision for proxy voting to be allowed in the House, essentially putting an end to the major battle since it was adopted.

Now mandate that everybody must be present and awake for a complete and total reading of any bill they intend to vote on

Followed by an hour or two Q and A to determine what unintended consequences are likely to result. Then vote.

lol..........I’m not smoking anything but I guess you most likely are closer to being right than I am. It’s probably dropped a few points since I reviewed it last.

I can’t imagine what the 7% or 5% are smoking!

I’m not sure he’s a “good pick”; he had to lose 12 elections before he finally gave in to the conservative demands of the “maga wing” of the party. I don’t think these things he’s done is really his heart on things
