A Virginia radio personality said he had to cancel Christmas plans because his Tesla S electric car would not charge during the ongoing freezing weather that has afflicted much of the United States.
Domenick Nati told Insider that he plugged his electric car into a supercharger on Friday when it was 19 degrees outside. The car's battery level was at 40% at the time.
"Two hours went by and not much changed," Nati told the outlet. "It was very slow and the numbers got lower as the temperature dropped. Eventually, it stopped charging altogether."
Nati said he tried charging the car at home, but having no luck there he went to another supercharger Saturday afternoon.
Nati posted a video on TikTok on Saturday in which he showed what happened, noting that the same thing had happened the day before.
"Battery is heating – Keep charge cable inserted," the supercharger's screen said when he plugged in, More than an hour later, however, nothing changed, he said. Nati said he eventually decided to leave the car plugged in and got a ride home.
Fox Business reached out to Tesla for comment, but they did not immediately respond.
Since I posted the video, a lot of people have mentioned having the same issue. Some fellow Tesla owners have even messaged me to see if I have found a solution," Nati told Fox Business. "Unfortunately my answer is no."

Owning an electric car means that you also need to own a gas-powered vehicle as a backup.
Physics dude.
Batteries don’t hold a charge when cold.
Ha ha!
we had electric school buses that wouldn’t start. now we have a HUGE heated garage and they go in 2 hours early to get everything warmed up. nothing like having tax money up the kazoo wasted.
A Tesla driving friend was making plans to meet up with a mutual friend for lunch. He admitted setting up the meeting place based on proximity to a charger.
What a way to live.
I have the obvious solution for Domenick, but he won't like it.
Gonna need that on those 105 degree days.
If everything goes “green” then there will be no place to go to avoid freezing to death if it gets really cold.
Ha, ha — just like windmills and solar cells. You need a coal-fired or natural-gas fired backup power plant.
Going green is expensive. You have to buy TWO power plants where just one used to do (main + backup). AND you have to buy TWO automobiles where just one used to do).
Is this a great New Green World or what?
I have an old-fashioned (hand crank windows, etc ) 22 year old pickup truck - started like a champ, first try, no hesitation, with a temp of 9° yesterday morning. No Tesla for me - I couldn’t afford one anyway.
I knew that about lead batteries, but now the all so hi-tech lithium batteries?
The solution?
Buy a petroleum powered car.
But a downtown department store manager donated his reindeer from his Christmas petting zoo and they pulled the car with amazing stamina and speed.
Having no choice and having another person or entity tell you how to live, is “freedom” for too many people. It frees them from decisions and choices. What a sad way to live.
LoL. To anyone buying a “green” vehicle, stupid sucks. Learn to live with it.
No Tesla for me - I couldn’t afford one anyway.Maybe one reason you can't is because you're subsidizing them and with it the richest man in the world.
Imagine that…..
I am amazed this one got past the propaganda machine. A lot of liberals are going be ticked. Now imagine it is zero or below zero. It is only a matter of time before people are found frozen to death on the side of the road in their EV’s.
