UNLESS you ERADICATE every single gang member-—it will be the same in less than 12 months.
It has to be a full scale war against the cartels but more importantly, an environment where the honest citizens no longer fear the cartels and can take a proactive approach in reporting the known gang members to the police.
Public executions of known cartel kingpins and their lieutenants could go a long way in turning the tide.
As soon as the Cold War ended Bush & Co dropped Central America like a hot rock along with Somalia and Afghanistan. Subsequently why these places became out of control hell holes was a puzzle. I am not calling for nation building K Street crap but common sense support of local militaries to keep the lid on. The Beltway was just giddy with the size of the ‘peace dividend’ to give to the Chamber of Commerce America it was astonishing.
Simple membership in the gang gets you a sentence of several decades. No early parole, at least while Bukele is in office.
Out of estimated 70,000, almost 60,000 are behind bars and incommunicado. They are now rounding up the few still in hiding. Some are running for the border, some are setting fire to their tattoos trying to burn them off.
About 25% of them are in the U.S.
My understanding is that the major ones are run by gangs of illegals who could be considered a foreign occupying force.
