“BRING BACK COLUMBUS DAY!” Trump stated on Truth Social.
Columbus Day is a national holiday celebrated in the United States, along with other continental nations, to commemorate the day Italian explorer Christopher Columbus arrived in the Americas on October 12, 1492. The voyage would be followed by three others in 1493, 1498, and 1502.
Columbus’s first voyage was financed by Ferdinand II and Isabella I, the Catholic Monarchs of Spain. The investment was significant at the time due to Spain’s expensive war against the invading Moors (Muslims).
Columbus’s original intent was to find a water route from Europe to Asia to increase trade. Instead, Columbus discovered the “new world,” producing a great expansion of human achievement, standards of living, wealth, and poverty alleviation in less than 500 years.
Some far-left radicals have since tried to cancel Columbus Day in the United States by replacing it with “Indigenous Peoples Day.” “Indigenous Peoples Day” was proclaimed a holiday by the Biden administration in 2021.
“Since time immemorial, American Indians, Alaska Natives, and Native Hawaiians have built vibrant and diverse cultures — safeguarding land, language, spirit, knowledge, and tradition across the generations,” the White House’s proclamation stated.
“On Indigenous Peoples’ Day, our Nation celebrates the invaluable contributions and resilience of Indigenous peoples, recognizes their inherent sovereignty, and commits to honoring the Federal Government’s trust and treaty obligations to Tribal Nations,” the proclamation continued.

For example
Many years ago I read a story about a French fur trapper who worked the Great Lakes around the time of the American Revolution. Well, one day he went to visit his friends at Tribe A and couldn’t find them anywhere. So he canoed down to his friends at Tribe B.
“Where is Tribe A?” he asked the chief of Tribe B. “We killed them all.” was the reply.
Actually the “indigenous” ancestors colonized the land. The all migrated from somewhere. I don’t think there’s evidence of an independent rise of human creatures all over the planet. We have no idea who murdered whom in prehistoric times. All we have is tradition and folk tales by the conquerors. History is written by the victors they say.
Take away the paid holiday.
The anti-Columbus viewpoint is based on lies.
Indigenous Peoples Day = 1984 Day
I dont think most native Americans care...lol. White liberal virtue signaling is at play here. Creating controversy out of thin air.
Good post. We’ve been encouraged for decades to celebrate people simply for their ‘difference’, instead of their individual character.
It’s very dehumanizing.
I just celebrated Columbus Day yesterday. The joy of working in the financial industry. It’s also a federal holiday so I’m not sure what Trump would bring back.
That’s just part of their “vibrant and diverse cultures”.
Made big mistakes, made bold moves, got lucky, got unlucky
Using Marco Polo’s estimate for the distance from Italy to China, Columbus calculated that the coast of Asia was about 3 thousand miles from Spain/Portugal. Using Polo’s descriptions, he expected to find islands located off of a mainland peopled by darker-skinned people with straight black hair, little in the way of men’s beards, speaking strange languages and all kinds of exotic plants and animals.
And that’s what he found.
The great irony is that had Columbus never lived the Americas would have been discovered by accident in 1500 by Pedro Alvarez Cabral who was on his way to India and found what is now Brazil.
The Indians were doomed in either case. Stone-age people being confronted by early modern-age European civilization.
He probably means he wants to bring back the undiluted celebration and appreciation of it. Some people won’t even call it ‘Columbus Day’ anymore.
Columbus day came about after 13 (?) Italians were lynched in New Orland’s.
Years ago Anti-Catholic sentiment (Italians and Irish) was strong in the US.
Even Margaret Sanger spoke out against them.
The KKK burned crosses because they were anti-Catholic.
French missionaries in the northwest wrote about the cannibalism and slavery practiced by the Iroquois nations.
Of course actual canonization would never of happened. I wasn’t speaking in terms of canonization as a legal effort, or church effort. Just metaphorically
Nations move. Yes.
yes they did!
Good idea. We don’t have enough days with fireworks.
