That’s $4.4 million the Wal-Market won’t be using to ship pregnant employees (women & men!) to other states for abortions.
Good.
There is a trend toward multimillion dollar damage awards for things like “hurt feelings”, or minor offenses. This has got to STOP. These awards are ridiculous and unjustified. Kobe Bryant’s wife was awarded 31 MILLION because sheriff deputies leak pictures of bodies after a helicopter crash? Inappropriate, but IMO not justified. There need to be caps on awards such as this.
Poor baby. $4.4M because his wittle feelings got hurt.
The result of this will be that stores will not call the police for the group that invented the knockout “game”. That will lead to an increase in shoplifting.
I feel very sorry for the n group that died with Kobe-—
BUT—This country needs tort reform. NOW
I’ve seen the videos of blacks blatantly walking out of stores carrying armloads of stolen goods. Hundreds of them. I feel for the decent law abiding blacks who suffer for this, but the truth hurts. Black culture tolerates theft as well as violence. Experience is an effective teacher.
$4.4 million in damages “
How the hell was this clown damaged to the tune of four Million dollars. Did Walmart not have a lawyer? Were they dumb enough to have a jury?
“ I’m surprised “a certain group” would even ENTER a “Cracker” Barrel.”
I get you, but I believe Cracker Barrel has become to blacks what a Christian bakery is to queers.
Walmart security asks someone to leave.
Person refuses to leave.
Police are called to escort person out.
LAWSUIT!
The only video I’ve seen is an edited, after the fact, version that was presented by the plaintiff and a few depositions from people that did not witness the alleged threat/non threat.
Maybe there was more evidence at the trial.
Yup. A friend’s wife liked to shop at Walmart in the wee hours. One night she was reading labels, heard a sound, looked over, and went back to reading. An employee was moving a loaded pallet jack down the aisle, but chatting ip s female coworker instead of watching what he was doing. The friend’s wife got crushed between the shelves and the load. Broke a rib. Walmart’s initial offer of settlement: $150 gift card.
Close the store.
“Hopefully this decision deters other people in Oregon from using the police to carry out personal agendas.”
This is Portland, The City of Roaches, where people turn in their grandma to the state because there were more than 7 people at Thanksgiving dinner. Where people still mask their toddlers and line them up for toxic clot shots, where polls say people should lose their jobs if not vaxxed.
Debating a liberal Oregonian is like debating a broken repeating 33 1/3 record player.
“No, but it warrants closer and more vigilant surveillance.”
I agree. But where this goes off the rails is when the security guard in his official capacity and on behalf of Wal Mart calls the police and falsely accuses the man of making criminal threats of violence.
That’s not cool.
“This is Portland”
Actually, it is Wood Village which is a nearby but wholly separate city in Oregon.
One of the great ironies of these Democrat owned and operated cities is that they evidence an utter contempt for civil rights. In this case perhaps the locals will consider the importance of their civil rights and in particular their right to carry.
Reparations is what it sounds like to me.
Shoplifting (stealing) just got a lot easier to get away with at Walmart.
“A Multnomah County jury has slapped Walmart with $4.4 million in damages after a Portland area man said”
Oregon jury? Yep. Transfer of wealth to a designated group. They should have awarded him a $100 Walmart gift card.
If you call the cops on me because you think I’m “acting suspicious” you need a solid ass-kicking or to get ventilated.
I don’t like law breakers, but anything done in retaliation for an unfair or inaccurate accusation is justified in my book.
Call the cops and there’s a non-zero chance I get shot (I might be carrying, and more than one rookie idiot cop has freaked out when dealing with a legit CCW).
So calling the cops on someone in a public place, where they have a right to be, without *video* (or multiple witnesses with verifiable observations) is, to my mind, just a step below attempted murder or battery, at least if *I’M* the person you are calling them on. And that should at least get you fired, ideally your ass kicked hard.
Now, I’m a 60 year old white guy who usually dresses nicely, doesn’t cause a ruckus, and deals with police in a polite and respectful manner, so I’m really not that much in danger. But still, call them on *ME* without damned good cause (like I’m looking in your window or ranting incoherently while armed) and I have no problem with the gravest of consequences befalling you, indeed I will assist.
Obviously I am using “you” here to mean the idiot calling the cops, not you, personally, MercyFlush.

At some point the United States “law system” needs to change.
It needs to be smaller & cheaper for the common good.
