It’s a long journey from prototype to production car and the Rimac Nevera has finally completed it with the first delivery going to Formula 1 champ Nico Rosberg.
Not that the Nevera hasn’t already impressed us plenty—the world record setting, Robb Report Best of the Best-winning EV hypercar has already proved its mettle as a highly functional, extraordinarily capable speed machine, as confirmed in our first drive. But delivering a production-spec car to a paying customer is easily the steepest milestone any carmaker faces, and paves the way for the inevitable gauntlet of real world durability, build quality and reliability.

Very nice, and exciting to see a finished product. Years of work, and investment.
I work in the EV industry for @ the last 7 years. Affordable, and practical production vehicles are still out there a ways. However it is happening, and will happen.
Did I say… Nice Ride.👍
Thanks for posting.
Corvette, Porsche, BMW, Ferrari, Lotus...
The Tesla did not just win - it crushed all of them.
I hear Formula 1 is making plans to race electric vehicles within two years - but only electric versus electric at first.
A race with no sound effects? There goes the fun!
“A race with no sound effects? There goes the fun!”
A very good point, and I suspect it will be more of a factor in sales than we imagine. Notice today, all of the car commercials still use Vroom Vroom sounds. How will they sell a quiet car??
So how did Nico get first dibs on the car and how much did it cost him?
“How will they sell a quiet car??”
Two outdoor rated JBL 6x9 speakers under the chassis playing ICE motor sounds, LOL.
Formula E has been around a while and no longer is terrible. (At first the range was so bad drivers switched CARS mid-race.)
I hope the rules for electric vehicle racing will favor innovation in charging rates, range, etc. Nothing like competition to bring about improvements in a particular field.
Watching electric vehicles racing sounds slightly more interesting than my old slot car track.
Or it could become like NASCAR? Where they change the rules to make it more “fun” to watch?
And the virtue signaling would include: electric cars don’t require any energy input.
Show me the tech where we can build and fuel a racecar with only solar power. That would be something of a JFK moon-mission challenge.
Doesn’t have to be a racecar. But if Americans are being told “we/you must do more with less”. ….. Just quit making the US Treasury and taxpayer fund it.
Formula E sounds odd — like a Star Wars TIE fighter but you can also hear all the tire noises since it’s relatively quiet.

I personally don’t bother with NASCAR. They could show every race in about 60 seconds: all the crashes plus the winner taking the checkered flag. I doubt I’d watch EV racing either.
Over the years, though, auto racing has led to many, many safety and performance improvements for cars in general, and I think that improvements for electric vehicles could come from EV racing, depending on what can improve a team’s chance of winning under the rules set up. I agree that tax money should have no place in the process.
Ping...
I put electric racing in the same category as watching paint dry.
Sweet ride!
100%
but was i ever to afford such a vehicle, i’d want the wing detachable to only be used on track, as i find them hideous on street cars where they rarely, if ever come into play
Agreed on that. Winged street cars are a joke.
Amen
Wings are so old fashioned, need a conforming body like the McLaren Speedtail.
