Or it could become like NASCAR? Where they change the rules to make it more “fun” to watch?
And the virtue signaling would include: electric cars don’t require any energy input.
Show me the tech where we can build and fuel a racecar with only solar power. That would be something of a JFK moon-mission challenge.
Doesn’t have to be a racecar. But if Americans are being told “we/you must do more with less”. ….. Just quit making the US Treasury and taxpayer fund it.

I personally don’t bother with NASCAR. They could show every race in about 60 seconds: all the crashes plus the winner taking the checkered flag. I doubt I’d watch EV racing either.

Over the years, though, auto racing has led to many, many safety and performance improvements for cars in general, and I think that improvements for electric vehicles could come from EV racing, depending on what can improve a team’s chance of winning under the rules set up. I agree that tax money should have no place in the process.

Electric Vehicle Specifications
The document also indicates, common electric vehicle powertrains that would be used in Phase 1 would include:

All wheel drive
DC Voltage – 900V max
Motors – 3 Ultra high power (>1000 hp)
Regen (Power Regeneration Unit) – 200 kW (kilowatts)

Furthermore, NASCAR would take the best practices that it has learned from other EV racing series and incorporate those into the new program, based on information contained in the document in question. It is presumed that some of those practices could come from the FIA-approved Formula E and Electric Production Car racing series, which has seen growing success since being introduced.

Because electric engines make little sound, NASCAR would also “evaluate options for sound” and look to OEMs for input. Finally, NASCAR would own or license all intellectual property involving the new EV racing series.
