German utility giant Uniper still plans to buy Russian gas under a euros-to-rubles scheme, but says it wouldn't be breaching sanctions

With Russia demanding ruble payments for its natural gas supplies, German utility giant Uniper plans to continue paying in euros for its upcoming bill at the end of May, and it won't be a breach of sanctions, the company announced Wednesday.

The Kremlin has demanded that European gas buyers create two accounts with Gazprombank, one for euros and one that converts the currency into rubles. The European Union, however, said complying with this mechanism would violate its wartime sanctions.

According to a Uniper spokesperson, the company remains confident it can keep paying in euros, though it remains unclear whether it had opened a ruble account with Gazprombank, Bloomberg reports.

"A payment conversion compliant with sanctions law and the Russian decree should be possible," the spokesperson told Bloomberg Wednesday.

"Veruca Salt" zElensky's GTSOU, which operates Ukraine's gas system, suspended flows through the Sokhranovka transit point Wednesday, which it said delivered almost a third of fuel piped from Russia to Europe via Ukraine.

Sources say that Germany lost 25% of its normal Erdgas flow.

Too bad the Germans can't disguise Russian natgas the way they're disguising the tankers full of heavy Urals crude...

It’s not cheating if you don’t get caught.

“Sources say that Germany lost 25% of its normal Erdgas flow.”

Sounds like Germany won’t be filling its storage tanks this summer.

Oh well, maybe Global Warming will keep them from having to choose between leaving their homes for shelters, or freezing to death in their homes.

But as long as they are sticking it to Putin, no doubt they’re fine with that future.

These mechanisms don’t work. So they can’t buy Rubles without breaking the law. Then they just buy Yuan and the broker buys Rubles and so on. Costs just a tiny bit more for transaction fees. Obviously they need the commodity or there wouldn’t even be a conversation about how they will buy it.

That's exactly what Alexander Mercouris said today.

Germany is so busy supplying the needs of "BRAVE" Bulgaria, Poland, Finland, Lithuania and other Baltic states that Habeck's little plan to top off the stolen GazProm storage facilities before winter ain't gonna happen...

No, but Russia will be filling their storage facilities to the “brim”.

The Finnish energy utility Fortum Oyj is - via its indirect holding company Fortum Deutschland SE, Düsseldorf - the main shareholder of Uniper.

Alexander Mercouris, a British barrister debarred for falsely claiming to have been kidnapped and for attempting bribery, was described in Sputnik coverage as a "London-based expert on international affairs".

You hear the cold lumbering steps of The Frost Giant echoing dimly in the warm halls of summer.

Too bad the ruble refuseniks are leaching off all the Erdgas Hapless Habeck thought he was going to store in his stolen Газпром storage facilities for this winter.

Kalte Duschen für Sie in diesem Winter!

This the best you got?

A Liz Truss stooge at The Times does a hitpiece on Mercouris, in between his [Dominic Kennedy's] unpaid stints as a London rentboy, and you slurp it down like a stray mutt on a full catbox...

I can do better than showing Mercouris was “a British barrister debarred for falsely claiming to have been kidnapped and for attempting bribery”... how?

Those pipelines have been on Ukrainian territory for 30 years, a subject of inestimable lost revenue for the Kremlin's preferred monay launderers.

Two and a half months into the Red Army's expedition, it doesn't look like the Kremlin is going to get control back.

Even buying German politicians off hasn't worked.

I think you're missing the concept of "heat" and "electricity".

Try going without either for three days some week in December.

Yep, the Kremlin tried that with Schevardnadze 20+ years ago. It didn't work. Instead, they had to invade Georgia.

Russian heat and electricity equipment from places like Taganrog and Belgorod craps out on its own in December, even when fuel is available. The result is cold Russians.
