My Hospital Stay Showed We're Careening toward Socialized Medicine

As a retiree from high school teaching in NYC, we have Medicare (80%) and supplemental insurance (20%). Effective Jan. 1, our insurance will be NYC Medicare Advantage Plus Plan and will be administered by Emblem Health and by Blue Shield, not by the troika of Medicare, Emblem Health, and Blue Shield as is presently the case. All medical bills will go to the new plan. The plan in turn will pay the doctors and hospital. There is a $253 deductible for each person and a $300 deductible for hospital admission. My experience is that we are already moving toward Medicare for All even though legislation has not yet been passed authorizing it. One need only look at the handwriting on the wall.

This system is a blending of the private and the public (Medicare will still pick up its share of the cost) under a single umbrella and is staging Medicare for All. You see, the senior citizen retirees paid into Medicare during the course of regular employment, and we continue to pay for Part B Hospitalization (although those payments are reimbursed once a year by NYC). The private insurance that supplements Medicare is publicly funded under the union contract with the city for the teachers. So the retirees have paid into the government Medicare fund, and the citizens of NYC through taxes have paid into the city and thus pay the 20% not covered by Medicare. Thus, Medicare, now conceived as a Medicare advantage plan, has shifted into being phase one of a type of "Medicare For All." The renaming as a Medicare advantage plan (with the word "plus") is part of the re-conceptualizing. The insurance company manages the billing to create the illusion that it is a non-governmental program, but actually the cash flow is entirely governmental,

Unfortunately, I had presumed as much ever since 2010, when Obama and the Ice Queen, Madame Sebelius pushed this systematic change in Health Coverage.
Enough of congress was convinced that they had to pass it to see what was in it.

I have heard that advantage plans can be horrible if you get really sick. However, if you are healthy they are awesome because you are refunded the 144 dollars every month and get to spend 80 bucks a month of junk from a catalogue. I looked at one and couldn’t find a thing I’d buy. I’m not Medicare eligible. I was looking at my neighbors.

and covid is just such a handy little bug that kills off the old, unhealthy and obese making socialized health care all that much more doable.

Medicare for all...what a *WONDERFUL* way to cause the utter collapse of a plan upon which so many older folks depend.

This dude is a retired school teacher on Medicare … and he’s worried that we are “careening toward socialized medicine?” LMAO.

That got ramped up years ago thanks to Bush’s Porkulus and the EMR/EHR regs.

Most docs who didn’t retire or quit got eaten by health systems.

A de facto NHS.

So, a retired high school teacher from NYC fears socialism in healthcare, because it would be negative for himself.

Oh, the irony.

All governmental unit retirees should be on gov-only healthcare.

:-)

Similar to what I thought reading this post... “careening toward socialized medicine”. Ha! We are slap-dab in the middle of socialism. Period.

Thank you for an early morning belly laugh.

One of the side benefits of the 19 month long hysteria over covid has been the growing control over the practice of medicine by the politicians.

Government says “Trust me, I’ll protect you!” and if you trust it you’ll be betrayed like you could never imagine.

Both the GOP and Dems want employee health care off employers books. China Mitch campaigned on Obamacare repeal for 5 years, Murkowski voted against it and now he is fully supporting her reelection. Obamacare is the law of the land and the GOP is just fine with that.

I can't believe even a half-assed political website like American Thinker would post such nonsense.

Let's count up all the things that make the author of this idiocy a paragon of socialism:

1. He's a retired public school teacher.

2. He's on Medicare.

3. He pays for Part B Hospitalization coverage, but those payments are reimbursed by the taxpayers of New York City.

4. His "private insurance" Medicare supplement is publicly funded under the terms of the union contract for the NYC school teachers.

Apparently this dope is that last person on the planet to figure out that the whole purpose of imposing socialized medicine is to ration health care in order to reduce the enormous burden that is placed on taxpayers by people like HIM.

We have socialized medicine.

What we don’t have is 100% .gov funded medicine. Yet.

Unless you are paying for everything out of pocket, and there are some that do, using our current “Insurance” is socialized medicine.
