Georgia Department of Transportation (GDOT) crews closed down a portion of I-16 in Treutlen County Thursday morning after a truck crashed into the SR 86 bridge.
Officials say the impact from the large dump truck trailer shifted the bridge nearly 6 feet, something GDOT says many of its engineers have never seen before.
No injuries were reported in the incident, which Gov. Brian Kemp “a miracle.”
“I think obviously, this happening in the wee hours of the morning was a big part of that, but we’re lucky in that regard,” he added.

GDOT expects to reopen one lane in each direction on I-16 by this Saturday, with all lanes open by the following Saturday.
Until then, eastbound traffic is being directed through Soperton while westbound traffic is being routed through Adrian:
That’s going to be a mess! Soperton is a tiny one-horse town and is going to be a cluster-fk with all that thru traffic!

Ya think!!
You crash a truck hard enough to move a bridge 6 feet and someone usually dies. That driver must have soiled his Underoos.
I looked at the area on Google maps a couple hours ago. Soperton is all dark red roads. They’re cussing this I’m sure. A buddy said it’d be a good time to open a temporary hot dog stand there.
How much wind noise would that create, and how blitzed was the driver not to hear it?
Oppsie....
Not sure I see any problem here.
Just crash a truck going the same speed into the bridge going the opposite direction to the other side of the bridge, to move it 6 feet the other way.
There, instant bridge fix.
I spent a good part of my life driving coast to coast. NEVER saw anything like that with no loss of life.
Thanks for the pic.
Imagine that insurance claim to build a new bridge.
dam, just take the same size dump truck and hit it from the other side
tap that baby back in, saul goodman
The bridge looks fine. Just get a crane to pick it up and put it back where it belongs and call it good.
Just get a come-along. Winch it back. Patch it up. Be as good as new.

No worries. The new infrastructure spending bill will take care of this.
What the heck??? Looks like the bed of a dump trump was raised at the time the truck drove under the bridge?
Looks like they've got a plan now...
Crews assessing the damage. Contractors will help remove lift that hit the I-16 bridge.
Plan….
⏺ Demo bridge. Reopen 1 lane in each interstate direction by Saturday July 17
⏺ Continue demo during week. Reopen all lanes by Saturday July 24

Ouch!
Dump bed was definitely pretty far up.
Wind noise may not have been a factor if the windows were up with the AC and stereo going. The HANDLING and RIDE of the truck should have been a dead giveaway that something wasn’t kosher.
Sucks to be him. If he owned the truck he has to replace it and probably won’t be able to afford the insurance. If he was an employee he probably gets fired and never gets a job driving again IF he gets to keep his licence.
I suspect that the driver is awake now.

Some people only buy $50,000 or $100,000 property damage limits. That is not going to cut it.
