A Texas court is scheduled to hear arguments Tuesday on overturning the conviction of a former Dallas police officer who was sentenced to prison for fatally shooting her neighbor in his home.

An attorney for Amber Guyger and prosecutors are set to clash before an appeals court over whether the evidence was sufficient to prove that her 2018 shooting of Botham Jean was murder.

The hearing before a panel of judges will examine a Dallas County jury's 2019 decision to sentence Guyger to 10 years in prison for murder. It comes as a jury's finding that a former Minneapolis police office was guilty of murdering George Floyd has again focused national attention on police killing people of color.

In today's American Courts she just might get off.

she should cut her losses. If she ends up with a retrial she’ll get a lot more than 10 years.

It was definitely murder, and only sentenced to 10 years, should have been more for killing an innocent neighbor at his own apartment door.

Had Botham Jean walked into Amber’s abode and shot her dead, he would be on Texas Death Row.

Damn straight. You don't have to be a BLM supporter to see that.

I remember that case. The poor dude lived on another floor, but this nitwit cop thought she was opening the door to *her* apartment and that the dude, sitting on the couch watching TV, was an intruder. Pulled her gun and shot him dead.

I have to agree. She was a very careless and foolish young woman but that being said I think she should be where she is right now but take the beautiful forgiveness that the brother of the deceased gave her in that courtroom and the judge giving her that Bible and use these 2 gifts to help other inmates to turn their lives around. Right now I think she could be more useful inside rather than outside.....but what do I know?

There is more to this story that has not come out, I believe.

People do not wall into other apt and believe it is their own. different furniture, tv on, perp sitting down eating ice cream and NOT posing an immediate threat.

I believe there was something between them that she wanted over and done with.

I remember that case. The poor dude lived on another floor, but this nitwit cop thought she was opening the door to *her* apartment and that the dude, sitting on the couch watching TV, was an intruder. Pulled her gun and shot him dead.

Then as he laid there gasping for air and bleeding out, she called her boyfriend to whine "I'm so F&%$#*ed" and "I'm gonna lose my job" rather than aid or even comfort the innocent man she shot.

With TX law only requiring her to serve 1/2 of her 10 year sentence, she will be eligible for parole in just 3-1/2 years. As far as I'm concerned, this appeal proves that she has not accepted responsibility for killing an innocent man. And she doesn't give a crap about the additional pain she will inflict on Jean's family by dredging this all up again. If she refuses to accept responsibility, let her serve the entire 10 years.
