A 15-year-old boy was shot while taking out the trash Monday morning on Chicago’s West Side.
WGN9 reported the boy was taking out the trash “in the 1300 block of West Washburne Avenue at approximately 5:30 a.m.” when a shot rang out. The boy felt pain and ran back into the house.

Sad. I guess he didn’t take out “all” the trash.
How hard do you think the Chicago police will investigate this shooting? almost none of the killers involved in the hundreds of Chicago shooting murders have been arrested or tried in a court of law. The killers only fear street justice. Chicago is even more savage and lawless thanthe numbers suggest.

Sad, isn’t it? That was my first thought too: “Taking out the trash.” Does that really mean “Coming in after a long night of hijinx?” Many of these tear-jerking tales of shootings are actually gang-related retaliations gone horribly wrong due to the perps’ notoriously poor aim. But maybe the kid really was up early that morning and taking out the trash because it was an assigned household chore.
Chicago cops have gone fetal. Why risk anything when those who run the city hate you and don’t have your back? I really miss Second City Cop’s blog. Guess he was silenced.
Nothing wrong with taking out the trash at that hour. It depends on what the pickup schedule is. Where I am, we are told to expect trash pickup as early as 6 AM.

No frontier town from the old west could come close to beating Chicago for violence. Or New York. Or Los Angeles. Or Atlanta. Or....
Your statement really stunned me. Hollywood built an industry, making movies about ADULTS quick-drawing and shooting each other in the Olde West. I repeat—ADULTS.
It is in modern America that kiids, mere teen-agers are the ones spewing bullets all over the cities. Not only that but teen-agers shooting don’t even make huge headlines any longer.
It is the ADULT shooters that reap the wide spread news(?) coverage and headlines. Something is backwards.

That’s what I’m thinking.
I read a book a few years ago about gunfights on the Frontier and the author pointed out that there were far more shootings in New York City in the 1870s and ‘80s than anywhere on the Frontier including Dodge City, Tombstone and Bodie.
A kid up and doing his chores at 5:30 am has to be one of the good ones.
