McConnell: I Will Fill Ginsburg's Seat With Trump's Nominee
NBC ^ | Sept. 18, 2020

Posted on 09/18/2020 9:13:51 PM PDT by Helicondelta

Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell, R-Ky., said Friday night that he intends to allow for a floor vote in the Senate to confirm a new nominee made by President Donald Trump to replace the Supreme Court vacancy left by Ruth Bader Ginsburg.

"In the last midterm election before Justice Scalia's death in 2016, Americans elected a Republican Senate majority because we pledged to check and balance the last days of a lame-duck president's second term. We kept our promise. Since the 1880s, no Senate has confirmed an opposite-party president's Supreme Court nominee in a presidential election year," he said.

Exactly
If shoe on other foot, vote would be held tomorrow
& the media aka DNC would help to cover for the hypocrisy
Mitch McConnell is Majority Leader, let’s remind him of that fact & ensure he wields the full extent of the power of his position.

Schumer and Pelosi will try to negotiate for a ‘moderate’ — from a list they provide.

Failing that, they will make the Kavanaugh nomination look like a cake walk with what all they will make up and throw at a ‘conservative’ candidate.

Murkowsky made that statement before Ginsburg died. If she sinks the nomination she’s done.

RE: No Souters please!!!!!!!!!!

Well, a Woman can replace another Woman, and I think this judge won't disappoint based on her record and judicial philosophy:

JUDGE AMY CONEY BARRETT

I don't think the Dems, as dirty as they are, will be able to do to her what they did to Kavanaugh.

Mitch won't let em this time. He'll cut them off, just like they cut off the Republicans in the House impeachment hearings.

” There are a number of vulnerable Senate Republicans, however, facing tough re-election races, which could affect how some of them would vote if it occurs prior to the election. c”

But no Democrats?
NBC didn’t mention any.
According to NBC only Republicans are “vulnerable” on a vote to replace her.

(That’s called ‘framing’).

Too bad there isn’t a female from Alaska that he could nominate. Then see McClosky refuse to vote for her before the election.

“they will make the Kavanaugh nomination look like a cake walk with what all they will make up and throw at a ‘conservative’ candidate.”

That’s what we need. Dems going crazy and hopefully riots. Trump’s reelection will be a shoo in.

So no compromise. Nominate a conservative woman in the most outrageous way possible and watch them explode.

There is no downside to Trump nominating. If he waits until after the election, then it increases the motivation factor for the Left to vote for Biden knowing it is their chance to stop it. There is a big enthusiasm gap right now, so no reason to motivate the Libs. If he succeeds in getting a replacement confirmed, Dems are demoralized and more apt to stay home and not vote.

“The question is, does Mitch have the votes to confirm a nominee????”

You still got to give it a shot. Twist arms and make promises. What does he have to lose? Even if not confirmed he’s no worse off that if he hadn’t of given it a try.

“According to the Congressional Research Service, the average number of days from nomination to final Senate vote since 1975 is 67 days (2.2 months), while the median is 71 days (or 2.3 months).”

*****BUT*****

https://www.thoughtco.com/confirming-u-s-supreme-court-nominees-3879361

“It Takes An Average of 25 Days
An analysis of Senate action on Supreme Court nominees since 1900 found that it takes less than a month for the candidate to be either confirmed or rejected or in some cases to withdraw from consideration altogether.”

“Ruth Bader Ginsburg: 50 days. She was nominated by President Bill Clinton on June 14, 1993, and confirmed on Aug. 3, 1993, by a vote of 96 to 3.”
