In China, "another brutal purge" is coming.

Ruler Xi Jinping, already roiling the Communist Party with a "rectification" campaign and mass persecution of foes, has risked his future with recent high-profile incursions into Indian-controlled territory.

Unfortunately for Xi, he is the "architect" of these aggressive moves into India and his People's Liberation Army (PLA) has unexpectedly flopped.

Beginning in early May, Chinese forces advanced south of the Line of Actual Control, the temporary border between the two giants, principally in three separate areas in Ladakh, high in the Himalayas....

The May incursions took New Delhi by surprise. As Cleo Paskal of the Foundation for Defense of Democracies tells Newsweek, Moscow in April had assured India that large-scale Chinese maneuvers in its Tibet Autonomous Region were not preparations for a move below the Line.

China also took India by surprise on June 15 in the Galwan Valley, the northernmost of the three areas of incursion. In a premediated move, Chinese troops killed 20 Indian soldiers. It was the first deadly confrontation between the two giants in 45 years.

Beijing is accustomed to getting its way in disputed territory, especially because Indian leaders and soldiers, "psychologically paralyzed" by their loss in the 1962 border war with China, played only defense.

Paralyzed no more. China is thought to have suffered at least 43 deaths in the Galwan clash. Paskal says the number of Chinese killed could exceed 60. Indian troops fought back ferociously. Beijing won't admit the extent of the debacle.

Then, beginning late last month, for the first time in a half-century, India carried out an offensive against China, taking back high ground the Chinese recently grabbed. China's forces were surprised when Indian troops mounted their attempt to retake strategic high points. Stunned Chinese soldiers retreated. .....

One of the great questions I’ve always had about the communist military is whether or not the masses of troops on the ground would really fight in any scenario other than to stave off an invasion of their homeland. Reports of the attrocities toward their own troops in the Russian and Chinese revolutions, WW2, Korea, Vietnam, etc. would lead one to believe that only the threat of death from their rear makes them dedicated to waging war. The continuing purges of the officer corps would lend weight to that thought.

Around 10 years back, I used to follow the blog of an American guy working in Korea, and he’d get Korean, Chinese, and Japanese commenters that would go into 3-way racist verbal brawls that most Westerners would not believe...

Well my uncle saw the waves in Korea and he said it was terrifying but they looked just as terrified.

Hard to read faces but he said it’s like they knew they were fodder and when they dropped it meant their gun would become available for another chinese soldier to come and die.

And even in modern times, a number of Russian soldiers said they had no desire at all to go into Crimea.

But I figured Chinese soldiers are so indoctrinated from so early on to believe in whatever cause they are fed, that they would be gung ho. That might not be the case.

I agree with you, we would beat the hell out of them-today.

Our problem is not today but the Chinese timeline horizon. In the fullness of time the Chinese do not intend to beat us in a throwdown, they intend to change the nature of the game, the players and their alliances, the geography. They also intend to neutralize American advantages, hence the new battlescape is likely to be in outerspace, digital space, psychological space.

They changed geography by building islands, they change the alliance situation by intimidating their neighbors-so far reaping only an unintended opposite effect-they are competing asymmetrically in the Third World and with 5G etc.

Psychologically, they are counting on the American left and the European left to indulge their penchant for appeasement until there is nothing left to defend. Meanwhile, they count on Western cupidity to sell out every essential Western institution from our media, our academia, our financial centers, our technology.

A four year delay and maybe even buy some time if Trump wins?

A longer delay and maybe turnaround if Trump and we take back the higher institutions and media and set the narrative in the country? which will be BRUTALLY hard
