Rick Tyler, a leading Republican analyst and so-called Never Trumper, told Yahoo News on Monday that his former boss Sen. Ted Cruz is just a coward for publicly supporting Trump even though Cruz knows hes a bad president.
You have a choice in this world: You can be a political leader and talk about principle, Tyler told the Yahoo News Skullduggery podcast. Or you can do the popular thing [and] in Texas supporting Trump is a popular thing and try to hold all your supporters together because you want to maintain power. But you know what? Sometimes youve just got to be willing to give up power. Sometimes youve got to be willing to stand for the truth.
Tyler, an MSNBC commentator and communications consultant, is a longtime Republican Party operative who rose to prominence as communications director for former House Speaker Newt Gingrich, a seminal figure who many consider a precursor to Trump as the first hyperpartisan figure of the age. Tyler was the communications director for Cruzs 2016 presidential campaign. His new book, Still Right: An Immigrant-Loving, Hybrid-Driving, Composting American Makes the Case for Conservatism, hit bookstores last week.
Tyler is an outspoken critic of Trump. He recounted that his grandmother taught him that the right thing to do is always the hardest thing to do and he says voting for Joe Biden will be hard for him, though he will do it. Cruz, he said, did not do the hard thing and stand up to Trump even though he knows better.

Rick Tyler, President of the Former Republican Cruzers for Joe Biden 2020.
This guy is a bigger loser then Ted Cruz
I didn’t think that was possible
So what is Cornin?
Nuff said.
Why did Cruz or Newt have this guy around?
I could say the same about Trump or Magnus and some of their choices too alas
The Swamp is everywhere
“Rick Tyler, a leading Republican analyst”
I have never heard of the man.
Translation: We can't take the overwhelming number of Trump supporters that respond to our cheap obvious propaganda. So we are ending comments until after the election.
Cruz will never be President.
Hes lucky to still be a Senator.
Cruz supported Trump in 2016 and I’m confident he’ll do so again this year. But being snubbed at the convention had to hurt.
Tyler looks like an anal-ist.
He recounted that his grandmother taught him that the right thing to do is always the hardest thing to do...
So he washes his car with an eyedropper and toothbrush and eats only what he scrounges up that is edible from his lawn?
Yahoo/Verizon “news”
He's an A-class clown.
Cruz is not a loser
Hes quite nice overall and has come around handily
I think Cruz thought 2016 was his to lose nomination wise and he got upstaged by a loud but full octane civilian
I was Cruz from jump street after he hit national stage in 2012-2013 even had bumper stickers made one of which is still on one of my company trucks my guys drive ...black Silverado
But hearing Trump talk as he warmed up in the months before the golden escalator I knew this guy was saying out loud what we all think
And Ted just got run over and it was personal
Worst Ted moment was when he blamed Trump for Dem thugs at Chicago rally
That turned many here including the founder that nite into the Trump camp
Ted Cruz and Trump are like a version of Gilgamesh and Ekidnu. The wild man Trump bested Cruz. Now Cruz works with him.
This is how fights work between men. They fight each other but when one wins, you accept it and work together.
Oh, _now_ they talk about leadership, integrity, and principles. I remember how unpopular those terms (especially ‘principles’) were during the Dubya years and McCain and Romney campaigns.
“Sometimes you’ve just got to be willing to give up power. Sometimes you’ve got to be willing to stand for the truth.”
Uh, huh. That’s what GWB did with his “shared power” scheme. Gave up power so Democrats could have a choke-hold on him if he did something that hinted at going against their “truth.”
These hacks know they couldn’t make it in Party D, so they jumped to the Republicans and turned them into “the same, but different” Party R and infected it with their rot.
Tyler...are you a coward and NOT mingle with your Marxist pals in Seattle? Arm and arm?
Rick Tyler really is a “leading Republican strategist” which quite telling. The party is not aligned with its base. President Trump is.
Sorry, but Cruz has already proved he cannot be trusted with an open mic at the RNC.
