Trader Joe’s is being urged to follow the example of other national food companies and rebrand products that critics say perpetuate racial stereotypes.
An online petition is asking the company to “remove racist branding and packaging from its stores,” including international food items carrying the names Trader Ming’s, Trader José and Trader Giotto’s. Those products and others reflect “a narrative of exoticism that perpetuates harmful stereotypes,” according to the petition, which on Sunday had been signed by more than 1,500 people.
“They’re racist because they exoticize other cultures, present ‘Joe’ as this default normal, and then the other characters — such as Thai Joe, Trader José, Trader Joe San — falling outside of it,” said Briones Bedell, 17, who started the petition.
A Trader Joe’s spokeswoman said in a statement that the company had previously decided to get rid of the names and to rebrand its international foods with the Trader Joe’s name.

A 17 year old girl named Briones started a petition. She’s probably upset that her parents gave her such a peculiar name and is trying to take it out on people with normal sounding names.
The cancel culture is like the joke about the Puritans of old —they’re always concerned that somebody somewhere might be having a good time. The Trader Joe’s names are fun and we can’t have that around here.

PS Local Trader Generic Joe today had no Trader Jose beer.
I asked (like a good journalist, why, and:) The Mexico Brewery (I did capitalize Brewery) that supplies them is currently shut down.
So Corona virus scores a victory for Corona beer.

Whatever you or I think of the liberal image of TJ’s (it looks full of LibTard yuppies when I shop at the one in Louisville, logical because L-Ville is full of LibTard yuppies), it is a very well run operation with high quality products. The Trader Joe’s brand products are very good.
I haven’t gotten in there since the ScamDemic started because I don’t live nearby, but it is an outfit that fills a niche well. That’s just good business.
IF YOU ARE a people watcher then Joe’s is the place to go for more comedy than the Comedy Club.
Warning: Be sure to supplement your attire with a barf bag for some of the non comical characters you might be subjected to.
Have to admit they have the best Brioche Bread from France for the best French Toast ever, and an interesting assortment of pizza’s, and Tortes.
