WASHINGTON (Reuters) - U.S. President Donald Trump declined to say the Confederate flag was an offensive symbol in an interview broadcast on Sunday, saying it is a source of pride for people who love the South.

The Republican president was asked on “Fox News Sunday,” if the flag, considered a symbol of slavery and oppression by most Americans, was offensive.

.....,....Snip..........

"It depends on who you’re talking about, when you’re talking about,” Trump responded. “When people proudly had their Confederate flags they’re not talking about racism. They love their flag, it represents the South. They like the South ... I say it’s freedom of many things, but it’s freedom of speech.”

President Trump has the left seething today from his interview with never-Trumper Chris Wallace. This part about Southern Pride for the Confederate flag should cause them to be put on suicide watch.

I’ve seen no evidence to support this claim that “...the flag, considered a symbol of slavery and oppression by most Americans...”

The President is absolutely correct, in my experience (which includes living in the south for many years).

WHAT A PRESIDENT!

This guy has BALLS!

I LOVE MY PRESIDENT! (and I’m from NY).

Always liked the Confederate flag. Never saw it as raciss.

Never saw our founding fathers as raciss! Their statues as raciss.

ALL the racism I see today is from BLACKS against whites.

Blacks are the new RACISTS!

It wasn't that long ago that the leading candidate for the Democrats, Howard Dean, was saying he wanted to be the President of those with Confederate flags on their trucks.

Remember that?

Brigadier General (brevet Major General) Joshua L. Chamberlain was the Union officer selected to lead the ceremony. In his memoirs entitled The Passing of the Armies, Chamberlain reflected on what he witnessed on April 12, 1865, as the Army of Northern Virginia marched in to surrender their arms and their colors: The momentous meaning of this occasion impressed me deeply. I resolved to mark it by some token of recognition, which could be no other than a salute of arms. Well aware of the responsibility assumed, and of the criticisms that would follow, as the sequel proved, nothing of that kind could move me in the least. The act could be defended, if needful, by the suggestion that such a salute was not to the cause for which the flag of the Confederacy stood, but to its going down before the flag of the Union. My main reason, however, was one for which I sought no authority nor asked forgiveness. Before us in proud humiliation stood the embodiment of manhood: men whom neither toils and sufferings, nor the fact of death, nor disaster, nor hopelessness could bend from their resolve; standing before us now, thin, worn, and famished, but erect, and with eyes looking level into ours, waking memories that bound us together as no other bond;—was not such manhood to be welcomed back into a Union so tested and assured? Instructions had been given; and when the head of each division column comes opposite our group, our bugle sounds the signal and instantly our whole line from right to left, regiment by regiment in succession, gives the soldier's salutation, from the "order arms" to the old "carry"—the marching salute. Gordon at the head of the column, riding with heavy spirit and downcast face, catches the sound of shifting arms, looks up, and, taking the meaning, wheels superbly, making with himself and his horse one uplifted figure, with profound salutation as he drops the point of his sword to the boot toe; then facing to his own command, gives word for his successive brigades to pass us with the same position of the manual,—honor answering honor. On our part not a sound of trumpet more, nor roll of drum; not a cheer, nor word nor whisper of vain-glorying, nor motion of man standing again at the order, but an awed stillness rather, and breath-holding, as if it were the passing of the dead! — Joshua L. Chamberlain, The Passing of the Armies, pp. 260–61

I never knew it was considereed a southern “thing” until I was maybe in my 20s. The flags were everywhere when I was growing up. They were along the roads in the hills of western NY state. We considered them a symbol of independence and objection to tyranny.

President Trump is a great example to follow here. He stands for what is right, and not for what is popular. And he knows the difference. If president trump sided with the media and the democrats on this issue, they would have turned on him anyway. It doesnt matter what concessions you make to the leftist fascists. They will demand more. President Trump demonstrates that it’s time to stand up on your hind legs for what is right. Would i fly a confederate flag? No, not really, I probably would have been on the other side. But we must have the liberty to speak our own conscience without fear from the woke mobs roaming the street like the German Bund. They must be defeated at all cost and exposed for the fascist bully’s that they are.

Here’s an interesting article to that end that I Pray to the living God in Heaven comes to implementation.

Meanwhile Democrats won’t denounce Communism and President Obama shed a tear in Cuba at the memorial to Che Guevara, a racist war criminal.

Saw a big FU driving into VA last week. Crossed the line on a major road but one people going North to South would not be on. Huge Stars and Bars, what we called a Holliday Flag) flying on private land adjoining the highway. Looks like Governor Coonman’s influence does not encompass the westerns side of VA.

The only people who see racism in that flag are the same people who see racism in all Republicans and some never Trumper rinos who see anything they want to defeat Trump. This only became a issue when a bunch of whiny ass little white liberal bitches decided it could be used against Trump. Truth is the confederate flag and confederate statues were just the beginning. There are a lot of nervous ass democrats wondering when they will get around to them. These are community ,fascist ,violent little revolutionaries who have their marching orders from communist, fascist, violent treacherous college professors who want to over throw our way of life!!!
