Lift Every Voice and Sing
James Weldon Johnson, J. Rosamond Johnson
Lift ev’ry voice and sing
‘Til earth and heaven ring
Ring with the harmonies of Liberty
Let our rejoicing rise
High as the list’ning skies
Let it resound loud as the rolling sea
Sing a song full of the faith that the dark past has taught us
Sing a song full of the hope that the present has brought us
Facing the rising sun of our new day begun
Let us march on ‘til victory is won
Stony the road we trod
Bitter the chastening rod
Felt in the days when hope unborn had died
Yet with a steady beat
Have not our weary feet
Come to the place for which our fathers sighed?
We have come over a way that with tears has been watered
We have come, treading our path through the blood of the slaughtered
Out from the gloomy past
‘Til now we stand at last
Where the white gleam of our bright star is cast
God of our weary years
God of our silent tears
Thou who has brought us thus far on the way
Thou who has by Thy might
Led us into the light
Keep us forever in the path, we pray
Lest our feet stray from the places, our God, where we met Thee
Lest, our hearts drunk with the wine of the world, we forget Thee
Shadowed beneath Thy hand
May we forever stand
True to our God
True to our native land
BOYCOTT THE NFL!
Great song, but the words aren’t that great. :)
This is the best rendition I found to introduce one to the piece. I am not familiar with Melinda Doolittle, but her voice is lovely and the lyrics can easily be heard.
I got sock of the NFL before Colin krap. They and the NCAA have a clear anti white althlete agenda. I root for the paleface underdogs like Adam Theilan, Julian Edelman, Cooper kupp and Christian McCaffrey to stuff it in their all black defenses faces.
I usually rearrange my sock drawer during NFL games. :)

Yes, but it no longer does. Most of the players are leftists who eschew the values you are extolling. The Left probably no longer wants to get rid of the NFL now that they own it. It is too late to save it.
I was at a 4th of July gathering at a friend's house in the neighborhood. No one was keen on the new "black anthem". My step-daughter, who has always been a fan of the Houston Texans wants nothing to do with them since the head coach and players (including J J Watt) announced their intention to join the kneelers.
It looked like the NFL had started to recover from the Kaepernick controversy until the George Floyd revolution came along. The left kicked their programs into high gear and the NFL is now gone.
I don't think it was written for black people only. This is a song I can actually stand up for even though it is NOT a national anthem.
Can you imagine all conservatives standing up and singing this song respectfully?! The race hucksters will be totally perplexed. Not the reaction they were hoping for.
The black players should therefore take a knee as it is played. Oh, and they need to point out that the way that the white and only the white players tie their shoes is intended to look exactly like a noose.
To Hell with the NFL.
So the NFL players and owners should be put on suicide watch as they are going to kill the goose that laid the golden egg.
As soon as TV revenues fall, and they will, there is going to be hell to pay at the NFL. As a secondary factor they will take their ‘effectively farm teams” at various colleges with them financially.
How can I short “US football” and invest long term in soccer/European football?
Absolutely - and in great detail. Re-frame and re-brand this entire discussion. And tweet out this article.
Can anyone who is not black kneel in protest? The National Anthem represents all Americans. Why do blacks get two songs and whites and everyone else only get one?
You should care what the NFL used to be. Because the Left has done to it what they’ve done to all of our institutions: the Boy Scouts, the police, the universities.
It’s not going to stop at the NFL. That’s my point. You can hate the NFL now, but pretty soon it’ll be your sacred cow that’ll be on the grill.
Even Chick Fil A caved.
There are a lot of black Christians in the NFL. With strong families (most are married to black women). They are millionaires. That is one of the reasons why the Left has destroyed the NFL. They don’t want blacks to have that upward mobility in sports. Also why they weaponized COVID-19.
Lift Every Voice and Sing
By James Weldon Johnson
Lift every voice and sing
Till earth and heaven ring,
Ring with the harmonies of Liberty;
Let our rejoicing rise
High as the listening skies,
Let it resound loud as the rolling sea.
Sing a song full of the faith that the dark past has taught us,
Sing a song full of the hope that the present has brought us,
Facing the rising sun of our new day begun
Let us march on till victory is won.
Stony the road we trod,
Bitter the chastening rod,
Felt in the days when hope unborn had died;
Yet with a steady beat,
Have not our weary feet
Come to the place for which our fathers sighed?
We have come over a way that with tears has been watered,
We have come, treading our path through the blood of the slaughtered,
Out from the gloomy past,
Till now we stand at last
Where the white gleam of our bright star is cast.
God of our weary years,
God of our silent tears,
Thou who has brought us thus far on the way;
Thou who has by Thy might Led us into the light,
Keep us forever in the path, we pray.
Lest our feet stray from the places, our God, where we met Thee,
Lest, our hearts drunk with the wine of the world, we forget Thee;
Shadowed beneath Thy hand,
May we forever stand.
True to our God,
True to our native land.

Not that I’m in favor of it, because it would just encourage the Left to go even further, but if I had to replace the Star Spangled Banner, this isn’t a bad choice at all.
LOL good one civ...
It’s also in many of the Baptist Hymnals. I really like it. The melody of the verses is pretty, and the chorus is dramatic. I’ve played it for Offertory in church at times.
can we desegregate NFL yet?
