WSJ Editorial: The Trump Referendum. (Trump is beating Trump)
WSJ ^

Posted on 06/26/2020 10:19:24 AM PDT by Bigtigermike

President Trump may soon need a new nickname for “Sleepy Joe” Biden. How does President-elect sound? On present trend that’s exactly what Mr. Biden will be on Nov. 4, as Mr. Trump heads for what could be an historic repudiation that would take the Republican Senate down with him.

Mr. Trump refuses to acknowledge what every poll now says is true: His approval rating has fallen to the 40% or below that is George H.W. Bush and Jimmy Carter territory. They’re the last two Presidents to be denied a second term. This isn’t 2017 when Mr. Trump reached similar depths after failing to repeal ObamaCare while blaming Mitch McConnell and Paul Ryan. He regained support with tax reform and a buoyant economy that really was lifting all incomes.

Now the election is four months away, voters know him very well, and Mr. Trump has reverted to his worst form. His record fighting the coronavirus is better than his critics claim after a bad start in late February and March. He mobilized federal resources to help hard-hit states, especially New York.

But he wasted his chance to show leadership by turning his daily pandemic pressers into brawls with the bear-baiting press and any politician who didn’t praise him to the skies. Lately he has all but given up even talking about the pandemic when he might offer realism and hope about the road ahead even as the country reopens. His default now is defensive self-congratulation.

Americans don’t like racial enmity and they want their President to reduce it. Mr. Trump has preached racial harmony on occasion, but he gives it all back with riffs that misjudge the national moment.

Trump is running on nothing but positive agenda. He hasn't even really started to attack Biden yet. Just skirmishes so far. But he will.

Let’s hear you spout this bullshit AFTER the first debate. Until then, find a fainting couch.

The polls aren’t telling you what you want to hear so they must be wrong. If you can’t see there writing on the wall you’ll be as surprised as Hillary voters were November 2016.

Trump needs to govern and focus on recovery, stay out of the Twitter wars. He just makes it harder to defend his policies when he’s made himself such a polarizing figure. Just like Hillary. Time for the blindfolds to come off here on FR.

ABSOLUTELY CORRECT.

And I am sure that those people are determined to hurt PDJT,
that I send a message to the White House saying if Karl Rove was going to be part of our beloved President’s campaign, I would not vote.

Please, please Mr. President, those people mean you harm

“Trump is headed for a massive calamity in the election, as the (more accurate than 2016) polls show.”

“more accurate than the 2016 polls”

I think everyone would like to know exactly how you know that.

At this point whatever the President does the mainstream media will beat him down with. I’m not optimistic either. It’s not Trump doing this, it is the entire Republican Party which I am ASHAMED of.

“Mr. Trump refuses to acknowledge what every poll now says is true”

I would also like to know how the WSJ knows that to be true. True in the same fashion that had the witch 12 points ahead of Trump at this juncture four years ago.

Trump is down to 44% today. Not good.

Trump was down to 37% in some polls this time in 2016 and still won.

The WSJ are for open boarders and “free trade” that makes them never trumpers by default.

I do like Kimberley Strassel but she is just 1 person at the WSJ.

That publication has no influence on my opinions.

Another globalist hit piece. Bullshit.

PDJT has been a politician for 3 years and he is the cause of all the racial divide? Give me a break.

And the globalist solution is for PDJT to bend over backwards and give the commies everything they want? My word.

Thanks for the comment. My only admonition is to not underestimate Biden in debates. Recall how everyone had written him off before the 1:1 with Sanders in early March, and how Biden wiped the floor with him.

I am concerned that we have convinced ourselves that Biden will fall on his face in the first debate. I submit he will not, and easily exceed expectations.

I would like someone to show empathy for the people whose neighborhoods were destroyed. In some places in Minneapolis people have no place to buy food now. Or empathy for the people trapped in the CHAZ/CHOP zone in Seattle. Or the people living in neighborhoods with exploding murder rates in Chicago and NYC. Who is showing empathy for those people? President Trump and other conservatives. That’s about it.

The thing that bothers me is I would have expected the polling orgs to take a hard look at why they got it so wrong in 16 and fixed it

Do you really think they would want to FIX it.
They designed the entire system to reflect what they are wishing for.
FIX it???? It’s “fixed” exactly right for them.

More like Biden beating Biden.

IF he were to be elected and WHEN he is certified unfit for the the office, we’d be left with his VP as President and Pelosi as VP, scary thoughts indeed.

WSJ goes wobbly once in a while. The Donald has temporarily lost control of the narrative. He was over exposed anyway. He’ll get back on his feet.

The Democrats are running on we’re soft on crime. White people must take a knee to blacks. Oh, and promising massive amounts of free stuff. It’s a big loser.

It’s still a long way to Nov 3rd.

But they cannot deny the obvious. Trump is headed for a massive calamity in the election, as the (more accurate than 2016) polls show.

Exactly four years ago, to the day, 06/26/2016, hildabutchbitch led candidate Donald J. Trump by 12 points on the Real Clear Politics Average.

Every one knows that RCP is 100% accurate, and never makes a mistake.

Today, sleepy joe is ahead by 9.5 on the 100% accurate, Real Clear Politics Average.

If history is any guide, Trump is 2.5 points ahead of where he was in 2016.

BTW, what makes you think that today's polls are (more accurate than 2016)? Hmmmm?

The polls aren’t telling you what you want to hear so they must be wrong,

You should read what I post, not imagine something to put words in my mouth. I did NOT post that all the polls are wrong (although some of them probably are). I posted that the WSJ article is lying about the published poll numbers.
