WSJ Editorial: The Trump Referendum. (Trump is beating Trump)
WSJ ^

Posted on 06/26/2020 10:19:24 AM PDT by Bigtigermike

President Trump may soon need a new nickname for “Sleepy Joe” Biden. How does President-elect sound? On present trend that’s exactly what Mr. Biden will be on Nov. 4, as Mr. Trump heads for what could be an historic repudiation that would take the Republican Senate down with him.

Mr. Trump refuses to acknowledge what every poll now says is true: His approval rating has fallen to the 40% or below that is George H.W. Bush and Jimmy Carter territory. They’re the last two Presidents to be denied a second term. This isn’t 2017 when Mr. Trump reached similar depths after failing to repeal ObamaCare while blaming Mitch McConnell and Paul Ryan. He regained support with tax reform and a buoyant economy that really was lifting all incomes.

Now the election is four months away, voters know him very well, and Mr. Trump has reverted to his worst form. His record fighting the coronavirus is better than his critics claim after a bad start in late February and March. He mobilized federal resources to help hard-hit states, especially New York.

But he wasted his chance to show leadership by turning his daily pandemic pressers into brawls with the bear-baiting press and any politician who didn’t praise him to the skies. Lately he has all but given up even talking about the pandemic when he might offer realism and hope about the road ahead even as the country reopens. His default now is defensive self-congratulation.

Americans don’t like racial enmity and they want their President to reduce it. Mr. Trump has preached racial harmony on occasion, but he gives it all back with riffs that misjudge the national moment.

Not a pessimist but I would like a more clearer message and pound away in why the rioters and mob are align with the Democrats...etc. It’s clear the Dems Strategy will be to hide Biden in the basement other than his Nomination acceptance speech and I bet they’ll back out of the debates sensing their only hope is to make Trump fumble on his own

Before anyone accuses the WSJ editorial board of just another bunch of globalists, let me remind you that this board, led by Paul Gigot, has been a staunch defender of Trump and Trumpism, and despises Democrats.

But they cannot deny the obvious. Trump is headed for a massive calamity in the election, as the (more accurate than 2016) polls show.

Trump is at the same point where he was in 2016. The bigger issue for me is that the entire GOP seems to be completely in a fog and off the rails. I'm simply not hearing a coherent message about what the hell the Republican Party even stands for anymore.

That's probably not an unexpected development, since the party has done almost nothing of consequence in the last 25 years when it actually DID have the power to get things done.

As the kids say today, President Trump is in the Catbird Seat with the polls trending the same way they did in 1984 when Reagan beat Mondale.

As a pretty successful presidential candidate's team once said, "It's the economy, stupid." That's what Trump is running against and his concentration should be on what he is doing for that. Forget empathy, Trump is incapable of that. Forget preaching racial harmony, nobody's going to believe it anyway. Concentrate on economic growth and lowering unemployment, the only areas where Trump out-polls Biden and the areas most voters really care the most about to begin with.

He should have done that much earlier and kicked Fauci out long ago.
I don't even want to hear nuthin about no g’dam pandemic.
It's the economy, economy, economy plus law and order and keeping Americans safe from being looted, attacked and murdered by Antifa/BLM. All out war must be waged against these vermin.

The polls suddenly turned when the BLM riots started. Do people disapprove of Trump or are they afraid to get crucified by some SJW a-hole? People are literally losing their jobs over stuff like this.

If Peggy Noonan, the Tuckster, and WSJ say Trump needs to change his messaging that’s because

IT. IS. WORKING.

This is a deliberate strategy in league with the Hoax Polls to get Trump OFF message, not to “improve” his message.

Take what they say and do 180 degrees the opposite.

This is a editorial take based on the MSM NOT reporting on the actual leadership the President has done, but on what the MSM has claimed he has and has not done, stuff they have created out of whole cloth, FAKE NEWS, and outright lies and omissions of actual positive accomplishments they don’t want the public to know. Once they’ve established this narrative, they now crow about “lack of leadership” they’ve crafted a strawman they can beat down in the public’s perception.

We’ve seen this game of propaganda before. So what if this is the Wall Street Journal doing it this time. It’s just more of the same Schiff.

Bullcrap.

Hillary was leading Trump by 11 points in June 2016, according to the super-biased media. How did that work out?

Obama’s approval rating in June 2008 was 44%. President Trump’s is now 47%. Obama won easily with an approval rating lower than Trump’s.
