Mayor Lightfoot said shes hopeful major retailers will reopen the Chicago stores that were looted or otherwise damaged during protests surrounding George Floyds killing by police in Minnesota. But, shes unsure of one of the biggest.
Mayor Lightfoot said she was on a conference call with Walmart and other major retailers that had stores looted or heavily damaged during the unrest in Chicago. She said she pleaded with them to not abandon Chicago.
"I think in the case of Walmart, what they were focused on was assessing the damage. They are doing an effort to donate fresh produce, to the extent of what's left so it doesn't perish, and other perishables, and they are talking their time, as I would expect."
There were earlier reports that Walmart expected to rebuild all stores trashed by looters and vandals, but company officials later said they would open some stores and would not say which ones.
The Mayor said most of the others said they are committed to Chicago. She said she hopes Walmart follows suit.
"My hope is that they will come back," Lightfoot said. "But I got a resounding, 'Mayor, this is our city, this is our home,' from a lot of other retailers and I would hope that Walmart would follow suit."
I would tell her to go pound sand.
Lesbo needs to plede with the citizens to stop acting like animals, then maybe work on keeping retailers.
No justice, no store.
Shes merely another leftist parasite and wrecker

You want money coming back into the bad parts of town?
March on the gang bangers and protest them. Support the cops.
Chicongo should be left to fester in their filth.
No PEACE no store
Prices reflect the cost of doing business, Madame Mayor.
Leave Lightfag in the dust.
.
Walmart should sue the government of Chicago for the return of all taxes they paid the city over the years on the understanding that the city would provide adequate law enforcement protection.
Any company who continues to do business in Democrat-run cities deserves the financial pain they will continue to experience.
Bottom line: Serious people will be very reluctant to live, locate businesses and invest in urban areas. Retailers that do locate to service the residual population will charge high prices and make only minimal investments in infrastructure. New York may come to look the same but it will be radically different.
New York real estate was buttressed by foreigners who saw NYC real estate as a safe haven for their wealth and ultimately their families. Who thinks that now?
I was thinking of justice for the property owners meted out to the looters. Real justice.
Well said.
If we look back at the history of rioting, in some cities, the riot zones still look like war zones years later. Rebuilding and redevelopment is a slow process and in some cases just doesn’t happen at all. Bombed out buildings are abandoned and not rebuilt. Businesses in the area do not rebuild. Even businesses which weren’t destroyed, often close down or relocate out of the riot zone. People who are able to decide to move out.
