Gov. Pritzker says he understands frustrations of business owners. What do the restaurant guys think?
CHICAGO TRIBUNE ^ | MAY 13, 2020 | John Kass

Posted on 05/14/2020 8:02:39 AM PDT by SJackson

The other day I went out to talk with restaurant guys. They once fed hungry people for a living. Now they’re restaurant guys without customers.

Gov. J.B. Pritzker, the trust fund kid who bought the governor’s office, shut business down to “flatten the curve” of coronavirus. Pritzker keeps pushing back the goal posts he set for when businesses will be allowed to reopen.

First, it would be only be for a few weeks. Now it may be late June or even longer until business opens up.

In their empty places, the restaurant guys stare at the walls and hear the echoes of their own voices. Takeout isn’t enough to pay the bills. Rent and utilities must be paid. Purveyors want their money for meat and produce and there are taxes — sales taxes and business fees and property taxes.

And government is always hungry. Once the plate is clean, government asks for more. Because government never goes on a diet. It just eats and eats.

“I don’t want to get the politicians mad at me, because it’s tough enough to survive without that, and I don’t know how we’ll do it but I’ll try to survive,” said my friend Joe Cistero in his empty JC’s Pub restaurant in McCook, where I love the pork osso bucco. He makes the best tiramisu I’ve ever eaten and I’m married to a Sicilian.

In his empty place, he showed me all the Plexiglas he’s gathering, to separate the diners. And his new outdoor patio, because customers might feel more comfortable outdoors.

“But I need customers to stay alive. I get it that the government wants our taxes,” said Joe. “OK, fine, but where do I get the money to pay my taxes without customers?”

And once they are open just wait for the retro increases in their state unemployment taxes.

They will have to pay back the unemployment money their employees got while they were forced to shut down.

Mark my words, it’s coming.

Liberals are too stupid to know they are cutting off their own hands.

Most all musicians are libs. Most all actors are libs. Most big sports stars are libs.

Their businesses will come back last if at all.

You might say he fattened the curve.

Yep. How much you want to bet that the next thing people are going to cut back on is entertainment? Things like their Netflix or Hulu subscription, Sirius XM, or other monthly subscriptions are going to be cancelled. I’m already thinking of cancelling my subscriptions I have through Roku.

I know JC’s pub in McCook ... I’ve been there. The food is freaking awesome. I hope they survive this bullshit here in Illinois. They’re on my list of top ten places to go eat as soon as they re-open.

People are so Covid-spooked and so out of cash that if every restaurant in the USA was allowed to open at any capacity..... I think you would see them making 50% of what they used to

Yes. And those who wish to survive with, to use your example, 50% of the employees. Yet our “bailout” plan requires said business’ to employ 100% of their employees for forgiveness. Regardless of revenue decline. Poorly drafted. Restaurants aside, hotels and virtually any entertainment venue, same problem. Forget cruise lines. What we need are higher taxes and greater government spending. Vote for Uncle Joe, he’ll turn this into a decade long depression. Thinking he’ll be as famous as FDR.

I honestly don’t think he understands, either. Jumbo Butt Pritzker was born into a fabulously wealthy family (and UNLIKE Trump having to build on his family business, seeing the empire collapse in the early 90s, and then having to RE-build it all over again), Jumbo Butt NEVER had to earn any of it and has never fallen on hard times his whole life.

He says he “understands” purely for PR purposes. This guy wouldn’t have a clue what to do if he had to live like ordinary people do.

Not as awesome as the food in JB's gut in Crook County. ;-)

He understands power. Which to many on both sides of the aisle is important, and only acknowledged inwardly by it’s exercise. He couldn’t give a s*it about the business’ closing, any more than he does about the people fleeing the state due to abusive taxes, about to get worse. Still, higher income taxes requiring a constitutional amendment, possible state real estate taxes to pay pensions, that’s power, and feeds his ego. Along with telling deplorables how to live

Believe it or not she’s taking a ton of heat for not standing on her hind legs. Cullerton is too. Governor Creosote is about to receive a smack down.

The Kane County Sheriff told him to pound sand today.

JB probably understands, but he doesn’t care enough to help any business owners. Will the virus cause JB to lose any votes, in 2022?

The Kane County Sheriff told him to pound sand today.

I read a letter of understanding from the Chair of the Illinois County Sheriff's Association (or whatever it's called ..) which states that NONE of the County Sheriff's will enforce Pritzker's executive orders. They stated there is no law in place that requires them to enforce them, therefore they aren't able to.

I need to go find that and post it here. I'm heading up to Cary in a bit to look at a boat. GF and I have friends that live along the Fox River and have said we have a dock at their home should we buy a boat. So the GF wants to buy a boat (sigh ...)

Prick Sir is so grotesquely incompetent as a Governor, he makes Blagojevich look like Reagan.

I think he will be a one-termer. Either will quit or will be primaried. If he survives a primary, he’ll probably lose to a Republican. But the bad news is that the Republican will probably be another Combiner hack.

Same as it ever was. Same as it ever was.

the two happiest days in the life of a boat owner are the day he buys it and the day he sells it .... enjoy!
