Much of California's coastline is closed amid the coronavirus pandemic—but on Saturday morning, a surfer who apparently really needed his fix was fined $1,000 for ignoring the rules, the Los Angeles Times reports. A Los Angeles County lifeguard at Manhattan Beach ordered the man to stay out of the water, to which he replied, per the Easy Reader: "Go ahead and arrest me." The lifeguard says the man then threw out some "colorful language" before heading into the waves. The lifeguard called his supervisor, who called police. A cop arrived with a code enforcement officer, who issued the citation.

Why can’t a lone surfer be left alone? They could have chosen to ignore him.

Thing is, at least here on the Gulf Coast, they are not hiding in their homes. They are out taking pics of people living their lives so they can force local officials to force the rest of us inside, where transmission is 19X more likely than out in the fresh air.

‘Say what you want about the surfer, but this is the height of totalitarian stupidity.’

it’s a classic case of the backfired cure; this guy couldn’t have been practicing distancing any more, yet his cure involves breaking the distancing protocols he was supposedly flouting...it’s remarkable how stupid bureaucracy is; if they believed what they preached, then this guy should be lauded, as distant as he was from anybody, but of course totalitarians operate on the ‘what-if’ scenarios, not reality...and those backing this nonsense are just as bad; last night someone riding a super high horse, calling people ‘ignorant pinheads’, tried to shame someone for complaining about closed beaches, and when the guy pointed out he wouldn’t be within 100 yards of anybody, she said hundreds of thousands of others would want to do so as well, completely neglecting to note the date of March 30, when thousands of people at beaches north of Florida are nowhere to be found...but, have virtue, will signal...

Police ordered him OUT of isolation.

It is cold weather, so the beaches are probably mostly empty.

‘I have seen liberals on a few local FB groups demand social distancing and closures of hiking areas and in the same breath demand PD to come in a fine people for hiking or walking their dog.’

this is a phenomenon that will cause lasting damage to a community; I have told of being chastised to the nth degree for expressing a concern about people losing half their retirement incomes (when your child dies, and you can’t even be with him, come tell me about your 401k), or bicycling in a group of 5 people (if you’re not 6-10 feet apart, you are creating a social hazard)...people have become insane, filled with holier than thou fervor rivaling the most deviant religious crazies...

I guess you can’t close a crowded beach and then make exceptions.

No, but you can choose an empty beach and make conceptions.

So I hear.

It’s unhealthy to stay inside your home for ling durations. Humans we’re meant to move around. That’s why people feel better when they are outside esp when the sun is out. Being cooped up is more detrimental to your health.

Bottom up, top down, inside out.

Who was it who said that? I’m thinking Alinsky in his “Rules for Radicals” but could be mistaken.
